Chiefs split against KR, WL-S sweeps Mechanicsburg in MS volleyball action

Several area middle school volleyball teams were in action Wednesday night, with Bellefontaine, West Liberty-Salem and Benjamin Logan all taking the court. Bellefontaine split its matches with Kenton Ridge, while West Liberty-Salem picked up a pair of victories over Mechanicsburg and Benjamin Logan swept Shawnee at both grade levels.

7th Grade – Bellefontaine 2, Kenton Ridge 0

The Bellefontaine 7th-grade volleyball team defeated Kenton Ridge in two sets Tuesday night, winning 25-11 and 25-13.

Bexley Daring led the Chiefs with a 6-for-8 passing performance, three digs and five aces. Devyn Hogan added three kills, one block, two aces and one dig.

Emma Layman finished with three digs, four assists and three aces, while Miley McKirahan contributed two digs, one kill and five aces.

Brooklyn Mosley added one kill and two aces. Lariah Valencia recorded one dig, while Carlota Moran finished with two digs.

8th Grade – Kenton Ridge 2, Bellefontaine 1

The Bellefontaine 8th-grade Chiefs battled Kenton Ridge for three sets before falling 22-25, 29-27 and 25-17.

Braelynn Neer led Bellefontaine with seven kills, six digs, one block and four aces. Skylar Phan recorded a team-high 19 digs and added two aces.

Charley Frazier finished with eight digs and four aces, while Mia Regula and Arianna Rumer each had eight digs. Rumer also contributed one kill, six assists and one ace.

Alivia Rogan had three digs, two kills, one block and three aces. Evie Schmidt added four digs, one kill and four assists.

Amaya Branson recorded three digs, Marissa Oaks had two digs, Myra Varner finished with one dig and one block, and Me’lah Conklin added one dig.

7th Grade – West Liberty-Salem 2, Mechanicsburg 1

The West Liberty-Salem 7th-grade Lady Tigers opened the night with a three-set victory over Mechanicsburg, winning 25-17, 13-25 and 25-23.

The Tigers finished with five aces and 11 kills as a team.

8th Grade – West Liberty-Salem 2, Mechanicsburg 1

The West Liberty-Salem 8th-grade Tigers also battled back for a three-set victory over Mechanicsburg.

After dropping the opening set 25-16, the Tigers responded with convincing wins of 25-8 and 25-19 to take the match.

West Liberty-Salem recorded 17 aces and 12 kills as a team.

The Tigers return home Wednesday against Benjamin Logan. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

7th Grade – Benjamin Logan 2, Shawnee 0

The Benjamin Logan 7th-grade Lady Raiders earned a straight-set victory over Shawnee, winning 25-18 and 25-16.

8th Grade – Benjamin Logan 2, Shawnee 0

The Benjamin Logan 8th-grade Lady Raiders also swept Shawnee, taking the match 25-21 and 25-10.
