Area volleyball teams battle on Thursday night

Several area volleyball teams were in action Thursday night, with Benjamin Logan and Riverside earning victories while Bellefontaine fell to Urbana.

Varsity – Urbana 3, Bellefontaine 0

The Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains struggled to find their groove against visiting Urbana Thursday night, falling in straight sets 22-25, 19-25 and 17-25.

Arianna Rangel led Bellefontaine with seven kills and three digs, while Alayna Boyd added six kills and four digs.

Presley Vigansky recorded 16 assists, three kills and eight digs while going 9-for-9 serving. Ava Layman added three kills, four aces and an assist.

Jillian Ullom led the Chieftains with 14 digs and added two assists.

Bellefontaine falls to 3-5 on the season and will travel to Jonathan Alder Tuesday.

JV – Urbana 2, Bellefontaine 1

The JV Chieftains fell to Urbana in three sets, 25-19, 18-25 and 24-26.

Rylyn Hoskins-Rose led Bellefontaine with eight kills and two aces. Rosie Lightle recorded 18 assists and 20 digs, while Alexis Hogan added 12 digs and seven assists.

Gianna Davis had seven digs, two kills, two assists, and two aces, while Ellie Bosiljevac finished with eight kills and eight digs.

The JV Chieftains fall to 2-6 and will also travel to Jonathan Alder Tuesday.

Varsity – Benjamin Logan 3, Northwestern 0

The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders traveled to Northwestern for a CBC Mad River Division matchup and came away with a straight-set sweep, winning 25-7, 25-10, 28-26.

Georgia Daniels led the Raiders with 14 kills and three aces. Summer Cline added seven kills and six aces, while Abby Vance, Avah Miller and Storm LeVan each recorded four kills. Nevaeh Fogle added three kills.

Autumn Cline directed the offense with 27 assists and three aces.

Brielle Kline led Benjamin Logan in serve receive with a 2.41 passing rating, while Lydia Johnson posted a 2.00 rating.

The victory was another strong team effort for the Lady Raiders.

Varsity – Riverside 3, Milton Union 1

The Riverside Lady Pirates picked up a four-set victory at Milton Union Thursday, winning 25-19, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-8.

Kara Klingler led Riverside with 24 assists and four aces. Emilee Robinson recorded 21 digs, while Bella Robinson added 13 digs and three aces.

Eva Dodds led the Pirates with nine kills, followed by Makayla Hurley with six kills. Kenzie Stotler added three aces and seven digs.

JV – Riverside 2, Milton Union 0

The Riverside JV team also earned a victory, sweeping Milton Union 25-20 and 25-20.

Ellie Zwiebel had 16 assists, four digs and four kills. Bella Robinson added six digs, while Addison Shoe recorded six kills. Karly Gillman contributed two aces.

Seventh Grade – Troy Christian 2, Riverside 0

The Riverside seventh-grade volleyball team fell to Troy Christian in two sets Thursday, 10-25 and 20-25.

Brielle Carpenter recorded three points with an ace and a kill. Addison Manning also had three points and an ace, while Stella Shultz finished with two points and two aces.

Brayla Olinger added a point and a tip, while Saber Jenkins, Bella Castallante and Scarlett Lentz each contributed a point.

Eighth Grade – Troy Christian 2, Riverside 0

The Riverside eighth-grade team also dropped a two-set match to Troy Christian, 6-25 and 21-25.

Brylee Shephard led Riverside with five points and two aces. Avery Wheeler added four points and two aces, while Kinsley Crawford recorded three points, three aces and a kill.

Bella Shultz had a point, an ace, a block and a tip. Ruth Morrison added a point, while Stella Shultz contributed a tip.

Riverside traveled to Benjamin Logan Saturday morning.
