It was a full day of baseball for area high schools on Wednesday, with teams battling in high-scoring innings, extra-inning thrillers, and shutout wins.
Here’s a look at all the action across the region:
The Bellefontaine Varsity Chiefs struggled to keep pace with Jonathan Alder, who posted a decisive 12–0 win.
Jonathan Alder struck early, scoring their first run in the opening inning on a wild pitch.
A third-inning error by Bellefontaine added to the deficit, making it 7–0.
Brody Boy took the mound for the Chiefs, allowing six hits and nine runs (six earned) in three innings, striking out three and walking three.
Jose Sandoval went 1-for-1, leading the team in hits.
Bellefontaine turned one double play defensively.
A strong performance by Bryden Morris led the Benjamin Logan Varsity Raiders to a 5–3 win over Shawnee.
Morris tied the game in the fourth inning with a triple to center field.
The Raiders took a 2–1 lead in the fifth after an error, and in the eighth, two more Shawnee errors allowed three more runs to cross the plate.
Morris also earned the win on the mound, throwing all eight innings.
He allowed 12 hits but limited Shawnee to three runs (two earned), with five strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, Anthony Griffith led the team with two RBIs.
Cayden Brown, Camden Spriggs, Bryden Morris, Xavier Allen, and Carter Lyden each had one hit.
The Raiders also executed two double plays on defense.
Jackson Snipes was electric on the hill for Indian Lake, striking out 11 and giving up just one hit in an 8–0 shutout over Northwestern.
Snipes walked two and didn’t allow a run in his 5 2/3 innings of work.
The Lakers put the game away early with five runs in the second inning: Snipes grounded out to bring in one, Kolton Cummins delivered a three-RBI double, and Bryce Burton added a sacrifice fly.
Indian Lake added two more in the third, led by an RBI single from Colten Corcoran.
Cooper Hall closed the game with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three and walking one.
Offensively, seven different players had hits for Indian Lake.
Cummins led with two RBIs.
The team also drew 10 walks, with Madden Lillard, Colten Corcoran, Cyrus Cummins, and Lane Kipker each drawing two.
In one of the most exciting games of the day, the Graham Falcons defeated North Union 3–2 in extra innings on a walk-off error.
Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, a miscue in the field allowed the winning run to cross the plate.
Adam Levy got Graham on the board in the first with an RBI double.
North Union responded in the second with a pair of runs on an RBI single from Peyton Davis and a fielder’s choice by Owen Wills.
Jack Traylor tied it up in the sixth with a single down the left field line.
Hayden Van Hoose went the distance for Graham, giving up nine hits and two runs across eight innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Levy and Traylor each drove in a run.
The Falcons turned one double play and played flawless defense, with Zach Wheeland leading the way with eight chances in the field.
