Basketball Teams Battle in Exciting Tuesday Night Action

Tuesday evening’s boys basketball games featured thrilling matchups across the area, with the Calvary Christian Spartans, West Liberty-Salem Tigers, Benjamin Logan Raiders, and Riverside Pirates all in action.


Benjamin Logan Raiders:
The Benjamin Logan Raiders earned an overtime win 75-72 over Yellow Springs. Peyton Vermillion was the standout performer, scoring 21 points. Roman Maxwell added 15 points, Ethan Miller scored 13 points, and Maddox Vermillion chipped in with 12 points.

The JV Raiders also had a strong showing, defeating Yellow Springs 50-24. Diesel Baughman was the top scorer with 18 points, and Xavier Allen added 8 points.


Calvary Christian Spartans:
Ridgemont outlasted Calvary 52-50. Philip Davie led the Spartans with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Christian Rogan followed closely with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Zeeke Wylie contributed 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Daniel Young added a 3-point shot, 1 rebound, and 1 assist. The Spartans will travel to Miami Valley on Saturday, December 14th.


West Liberty-Salem Tigers:
The West Liberty-Salem Tigers varsity defeated Cedarville 64-44 in their season opener. Taran Logwood led the Tigers with 22 points, while Brevin Louden scored 17 points. Carson Poppe added 9 points, Isaiah Reames contributed 7 points, and Caleb Hershberger had 5 points. Garrett Wallen and Troy Christison each scored 2 points.

The junior varsity A team also had a strong performance, winning 57-27. Tucker Searles led with 14 points, followed by Beckett Sullivan with 12 points. Conner Leichty added 9 points, and Sam Strapp chipped in with 6 points. Other contributors included Asher Cole (5 points), Garrett Wallen (4 points), and Casey Boyer (2 points).

In the junior varsity B game, West Liberty-Salem won 43-25. Brayan Gullett and Zeke Longshore each scored 10 points, with Asher Cole adding 7 points. Casey Boyer contributed 6 points, and Liam Barger had 4 points. The Tigers JVB squad also saw points from Braden Hershberger (2 points), Zade Bielski (2 points), and Colton Neeld (2 points).

All three West Liberty-Salem teams will return to the court on Friday, December 13th, at Mechanicsburg.


Riverside Pirates:
The Riverside Pirates had a tough night on the road at Northridge, with all three teams falling short.

In the freshman game, Riverside lost 47-15. Garrett Purtee led the way with 6 points.

In the JV game, the Pirates were defeated 52-40. Syler Clark led with 12 points and 2 steals, while David Gross added 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Colton Hurley also contributed with 5 points and 6 rebounds.

In the varsity game, Riverside lost 90-48. Gavin Orsborne was the top scorer for the Pirates with 19 points. Jaxon Woods added 8 points and 5 rebounds, while Landon Purtee and Brody Orsborne each scored 6 points.
