Bellefontaine, Indian Lake and Benjamin Logan battle through tough losses; West Liberty-Salem splits

The Bellefontaine 7th grade Lady Chiefs lost a hard-fought game in overtime against visiting Jonathan Alder Monday night, falling 33-31.

With under 10 seconds remaining and trailing by just one point, Jonathan Alder hit a late three-pointer to secure the win.

Kennedy Hairston led the team with 9 points and 7 rebounds, while Annie Gallaway and Zyannia Bean-Breaston each added 6 points.

Gianna Davis, Brookelyn Oaks, and Alexis Hogan combined for 10 points, and Samantha Bricker provided strong minutes in the post.

The Lady Chiefs now stand at 9-5 on the season and will travel to Graham Wednesday night for their final regular-season contest of the year.

In the 8th grade game, the Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs came away with a 35-20 win against Jonathan Alder.

Lexey Brown led with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals.

Mia Brown added 10 points, 9 rebounds, and four steals, while Cameo Greene contributed 9 points.

Paxton Stewart also added 2 points and 3 steals, and Rylee Crabtree, Allie Myers, Leila Hammond, and Annie Clem all helped secure the win.

The Lady Chiefs will finish their regular season Wednesday night with a trip to Graham.

The Bellefontaine boys teams both struggled in their matchups against Jonathan Alder.

The 7th-grade boys were defeated 44-8, and the 8th-grade boys lost 49-25.

Meanwhile, the Indian Lake 7th grade girls basketball team fell to Northwestern 22-15.

Addison Headings and Abby Bihn each scored 6 points, and Caroline Jones grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds.

The Indian Lake 8th grade girls also suffered a loss, falling to Northwestern 64-28.

Kyler Carruthers led the team with 12 points, while Makayle Clary contributed 8 points.

Claire Tidwell added 4 points and 3 assists, and Addison Headings chipped in 2 points and 5 rebounds.

The Benjamin Logan Raiders battled hard against Kenton Ridge, but both the 7th and 8th-grade teams were unable to come out on top.

The 7th-grade team lost 42-7.

Leading the Raiders was Luke Long scoring 4 points, Brayden Sims added 2 and Gavin Vermillion netted 1 point.

The 8th grade team also fell short, losing 35-21.

Micah Gregg led the team netting 8 points, Gabe Predmore added 6, Brantley Karn 3, and Carrick Spriggs and Karson McCoy each netted 2 points.

The 8th-grade Raiders now stand at 10-4 for the season.

They will travel to Bellefontaine on Thursday at 5:30 PM for their next game.

The West Liberty Salem 6th-grade girls basketball team had a weekend split dropping a game to Greenview 22-12 and defeating Kenton Ridge 23-22.

Izzy Jones scored 8 with Chloe Staten and Zoey Richardson added 2 points each against Greenview.

Scoring was slow at the start of the Kenton Ridge game but it picked up fast in the second half with Zoey Richardson scoring 13.

Izzy Jones tossed in 6 points while Chloe Staten and Quinn Moore each had 2 points.

The Tigers are now 7-1 and will play Fairbanks and Mechanicsburg next weekend.
