Bellefontaine beats Benjamin Logan in straight sets; More teams earn sweeps

Lots of brooms were brought out to the volleyball court on Thursday night as several Logan County teams played their way to sweeps over their competition.

Bellefontaine hosted county rival Benjamin Logan in a spirited volleyball matchup Thursday night, and the Chiefs dominated from start to finish, winning in straight sets: 25-18, 25-11, 25-21.

For the Lady Chiefs, Kelsie Snapp was a force all night, tallying 17 kills, along with eight digs and four aces, while Kaeleigh Flora and Ava Layman each chipped in five kills. Layman also recorded three aces and six digs, and Flora added four digs. Madi Zedeker led the charge on both ends of the court, anchoring the defense with nine digs and a block, while orchestrating the offense with 23 assists and two aces.

Ari Rangel added a strong defensive presence with five blocks. Presley Vigansky did what she does best from the service line, racking up five aces.  Jillian Ullom rounded out the defensive effort with seven digs and an ace.

For the Lady Raiders, Summer Cline led with nine kills, followed by Georgia Daniels with six and Abby Vance with four. Kylie Harner orchestrated 12 assists as the setter.

With the win, Bellefontaine improves to 6-0 on the season and will kick off conference play next Tuesday on the road against Urbana.

In junior varsity action for the Lady Chiefs, the Red squad also came out victorious, battling back after dropping the first set to win 10-25, 25-22, 25-23. Zoey Conner led the team with 8 kills and 14 digs, while Ava Oppy added 12 digs, 4 kills, and 3 aces. Alayna Boyd contributed 9 digs, 5 kills, and 7 assists, and Rosie Lightle had 8 digs, 6 assists, and an ace. Celine Blinn added 7 digs and 2 aces.

JV Black fell in two sets, 25-16, 25-15, despite a strong effort. Brooklyne Kuntz led the Chiefs with 12 digs, 4 kills, and 2 aces. Addison Smith added 4 kills, while Lexi McKirahan had 7 digs. Rosie Lightle contributed 5 digs, 6 assists, and was perfect from the service line.

 

The Indian Lake Lady Lakers swept Tecumseh in every match, with the varsity squad winning: 25-19, 25-16, 25-9.

Cami Bailey led the Lakers with 10 kills, 14 digs, and was perfect on serving with four aces. Addy Roby dished out 32 assists, while Addy Beck tacked on two of her own to add to her 13 digs. Mackenzie Miller played well in both facets, finishing with eight kills, six digs, and was perfect on serving. Annie Rapp had seven kills, one block, and was perfect serving.

The JV Lakers won 25-14, 25-10. Stat leaders follow below:

Riverside swept the Northridge Lady Vikings 25-18, 25-19, 25-11.

Miah Carman led with six kills and two blocks. Chloe Purtee had seven digs and four aces. Emilee Robinson had five aces. Zoey Ransbottom and Kara Klingler added eight assists each.

JV won 25-9, 25-8. Ellie Zwiebel led with 10 assists and 9 aces. Addison Shoe, Lily Zwiebel, Abigail Littlejohn, and Makayla Hurley all had 2 kills.
