Bellefontaine boys’ post season-best at Arrow Invitational: local Friday golf results

Local high school golf teams were busy on the course Friday, with several area squads competing in conference and regular-season matches. Bellefontaine continued its strong recent stretch with its best team score of the season, while Indian Lake and Riverside also took the course, and West Liberty-Salem opened Ohio Heritage Conference play with a victory on the girls side.

Boys’ Golf

Bellefontaine Chieftains – 7th at Arrow Invitational

The Bellefontaine Chieftains turned in their best team performance of the fall Friday, shooting a 332 at the highly competitive Arrow Invitational.

Bellefontaine finished tied for seventh in a 17-team field, with Ean Fultz leading the way with a team-best 79. Hudson Banta followed with an 82, Noah Smith carded an 84 and Colson Garver added an 87 to complete the team’s four counting scores. Tyler Rossey also competed for the Chieftains and finished with a 90.

The 332 marked Bellefontaine’s lowest team total of the season and continued a trend of improvement for the Chieftains, who have lowered their team score in each of their last three tournaments.

Indian Lake 170, Botkins 153

Indian Lake fell to Botkins 153-170 Friday at Shelby Oaks.

Freshman Mason Berg led the Lakers with a 38, followed by Jaxon Snipes with a 43, Grant Wickline with a 44 and Crew McPherson with a 45.

Eli Cummins shot a 46 and provided one of the highlights of the day, recording an eagle on the fourth hole from approximately 180 yards. Jesse Carder rounded out the Indian Lake lineup with a 47.

The Lakers will return to action Tuesday, Aug. 11, at noon at Prairie View against Wapakoneta.

Temple 186, Riverside 212

Temple defeated Riverside 186-212 Friday in a nine-hole match at Hidden Creek.

Riverside was led by senior Zane Armbruster, who posted a 47. Junior Brody Orsborne followed with a 50, while junior Syler Clark carded a 55.

Jaycen Roby finished with a 60 and sophomore Karston Duckro added a 73 for Riverside.

Girls’ Golf

West Liberty-Salem 240, Northeastern 257

The West Liberty-Salem girls golf team opened Ohio Heritage Conference play Friday at Woodland Golf Club, battling through a weather delay before defeating Northeastern 240-257.

Grace Jones led the Lady Tigers and earned medalist honors with a round of 52. Ashlynn Pope followed with a 61, while Ava Martin carded a 63 and Kate Bolton added a 64 to complete West Liberty-Salem’s team score.

The victory gives the Lady Tigers a strong start to conference play. West Liberty-Salem will return to action Thursday when it travels to Greenon.
