Several area volleyball teams were in action Monday night, with Bellefontaine falling to North Union in five sets, while the Chieftain middle school teams picked up wins over Tecumseh. Riverside also faced Sidney Lehman, and Benjamin Logan swept Shawnee at the middle school level.
North Union 3, Bellefontaine 2 — Varsity
The Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains were edged by host North Union in five sets Monday night, 25-27, 25-15, 25-19, 9-25 and 10-15.
Ava Layman led Bellefontaine with 19 kills and 16 digs while surpassing 500 career digs. She also went 19-for-20 serving with five aces and added a block and an assist.
Presley Vigansky finished with 35 assists, 10 digs, two kills and a block.
Jillian Ullom recorded 22 digs, two aces and four assists, while Alayna Boyd added nine kills and 12 digs and was perfect serving with an ace and an assist.
Celine Blinn had seven digs and went 18-for-19 serving with two aces. Arianna Rangel added eight kills, five digs, a block and an assist.
Lexey Brown finished with five kills and two digs, while Jazmin Nelson recorded two kills and two blocks. Rosie Lightle was perfect on 12 serves with one ace.
Bellefontaine falls to 5-12 and will travel to Urbana Tuesday night. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
North Union 2, Bellefontaine 0 — JV
The Bellefontaine JV Lady Chiefs fell in two sets, 8-25 and 13-25.
Ellie Bosiljevac recorded four kills and three digs and was 5-for-5 serving with an ace. Rylyn Hoskins-Rose added two kills and went 4-for-5 serving.
Gianna Davis finished with three kills and an assist, while Rosie Lightle had six assists and was 6-for-6 serving.
The JV Chiefs are also 5-12 and will travel to Urbana Tuesday.
Bellefontaine 2, Tecumseh 0 — 7th Grade
The Bellefontaine seventh-grade Chieftains defeated Tecumseh in two sets, 25-8 and 25-19.
Bexley Daring led the way with 14 digs and 10 aces.
Emma Layman added seven assists, five digs, a kill and two aces. Devyn Hogan finished with four kills, two digs, two assists and an ace.
Miley McKirahan recorded five aces and a kill, while Brooklyn Mosley added two kills and an ace.
Eliza Blinn had two digs, Addy Harden recorded two kills and an ace, and Eva Irick added a kill.
Bellefontaine 2, Tecumseh 1 — 8th Grade
The eighth-grade Chieftains defeated Tecumseh in three sets, 25-17, 24-26 and 25-15.
Arianna Rumer led Bellefontaine with 18 digs, while Skylar Phan added 16 digs and five aces.
Evie Schmidt recorded 15 digs, five assists and two aces. Alivia Rogan added six kills, five digs and an ace.
Braelynn Neer finished with seven aces, four digs, a kill and a block. Charley Frazier had two digs, a kill, a block and an ace.
Myra Varner added five digs and a kill, while Mia Regula had seven digs. Marissa Oaks and Amaya Branson each had six digs, and Me’lah Conklin recorded an assist.
The eighth-grade Chieftains improve to 11-4 and will host Kenton Ridge Wednesday.
Sidney Lehman 2, Riverside 0 — 7th Grade
Riverside traveled to Piqua for a conference match against Sidney Lehman, with the Cavaliers falling in two sets, 7-25 and 19-25.
Stella Shultz led Riverside with five points and an ace. Saber Jenkins added three points and an ace, while Scarlett Lentz had two points and an ace.
Bella Catallante recorded one point and an ace, and Kylie Godshall added one point.
Sidney Lehman 2, Riverside 0 — 8th Grade
The Riverside eighth-grade team also fell to Sidney Lehman, 22-25 and 15-25.
Bella Shultz led the Pirates with 13 points, four aces and a kill.
Brylee Shephard added three points, an ace, two tips, a block and a kill. Paloma Quixan scored three points, while Avery Wheeler had two points and an ace.
Kinsley Crawford finished with one point, two kills and a block.
Riverside will return to action Thursday when the Pirates travel to Miami East.
Benjamin Logan 2, Shawnee 0 — 7th Grade
The Benjamin Logan seventh-grade Lady Raiders swept Shawnee, 25-9 and 25-9.
