Bellefontaine pummels Benjamin Logan; more Tuesday night boys basketball finals

Area teams were busy on the hardwood Tuesday night with conference matchups, close contests, and strong individual performances across varsity, JV, and freshman levels.

Bellefontaine 70, Benjamin Logan 36

The Bellefontaine Chieftains earned a decisive CBC road win at Benjamin Logan, improving to 3–2 on the season. The Raiders fall to 3–4.

The Chiefs controlled the game from the opening tip. The press defense sped up Benjamin Logan, causing numerous early turnovers, which led to a significant number of points for Bellefontaine. The Chiefs were hot to start the game, with five first-quarter triples as they led 25-11 after the first quarter.

The Raiders started to find some offensive rhythm, but Bellefontaine has an answer for everything. Their physicality and athleticism helped the Chiefs grow their lead to 27 points at the halftime whistle, despite a logo three towards the end of the second from Maddox Vermillion.

Even as the game hit running clock, the might of the Chiefs never wavered, as the press defense and outside shooting continued to shine in a dominant victory.

Junior Varsity: Bellefontaine 43, Benjamin Logan 31

Bellefontaine picked up the JV win behind a strong night from Reign St. Clair, who scored 15 points. Sutton Daring added 11 for the Chiefs.

Benjamin Logan was led by Micah Gregg with 11 points, while Caden Powell chipped in eight.

Freshmen: Benjamin Logan 44, Bellefontaine 40 (Overtime)

The freshman matchup went to overtime, where Benjamin Logan pulled out the win.

Matthew Dearwester paced Bellefontaine with 14 points. For the Raiders, Micah Gregg led the way with 14 points, followed by Gabe Predmore with 11 and Karson McCoy with 10.

Jonathan Alder 53, Indian Lake 51

Varsity Boys

Indian Lake came up just short in its first game of the season on the road at Jonathan Alder.

Avery Pequignot led Indian Lake with 22 points, while Brodey Reisinger added 16.

Indian Lake 8th Grade Boys 52, Riverside 30

The Indian Lake 8th-grade boys jumped out early and never looked back, knocking down nine three-pointers as a team.

Colt Volbrecht led all scorers with 26 points, including four three-pointers. Miller Hall added 15 points, and Brady Jackson scored nine—all from beyond the arc.

Indian Lake improves to 4–2 and hosts Urbana on Thursday.

Indian Lake 7th Grade Boys 30, Riverside 28

Indian Lake’s 7th grade boys basketball team held on for a tight win over Riverside in a back-and-forth contest.

The Lakers came out strong early, but Riverside battled back and cut the deficit to just two points late in the fourth quarter. Indian Lake finished the game with a key defensive stop in the closing moments to seal the victory.

Logan Kuhlke led the Lakers with 13 points, while Ross Tidwell added 10. Calin Headings scored three points, and Hudson Titus and Kason Taylor chipped in two points apiece.

Troy Christian 70, Riverside 36

Varsity Boys

Riverside ran into an undefeated Troy Christian squad on the road and came up short.

Hayden Sanford led the Pirates with 14 points. Hayden McCully and Syler Clark each added six points in the loss.

Junior Varsity: Troy Christian 48, Riverside 26

Corbin Reed paced Riverside with six points, while Laithen Snyder chipped in five.

West Liberty-Salem 67, Catholic Central 55

Varsity Boys

West Liberty-Salem improved to 3–2 overall and 3–1 in the OHC with a home win over SCC.

Brandel Sullivan led the Tigers with 20 points, followed by Sutton Wilcoxon with 13 and Brevin Louden with 11.

Urbana 63, North Union 48

Urbana picked up a strong varsity win behind a balanced scoring effort and aggressive defense.

Drew Dixon led the Hillclimbers with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Case Teepe added 13. Grady Lantz finished with 11 points and an impressive eight steals, and Gio Rube chipped in 10.

JV: Urbana 39, North Union 36

Braxten Spriggs scored 10 points to lead Urbana. Mekhi Peterson and Connor Endres each added eight.

Freshmen: Urbana 41, North Union 40

Carter Houseman led the way with 13 points, while Mekhi Peterson scored 11 and Breylon Potter added nine.

Urbana hosts Kenton Ridge on Friday.
