Area track and field athletes turned in a number of strong performances over the weekend, highlighted by top finishes and personal bests across both high school and junior high competition.
Bellefontaine Chieftains
The Bellefontaine boys track team competed in the Lakeview Invitational in Pickerington against a 17-team field and came away with several top-eight finishes. Jackson Maus led the way, placing 3rd in the 1600-meter run and 6th in the 800. Jax Fleming added a 6th-place finish in the 200-meter hurdles.
In the field events, Ean Fultz had a strong showing with a 4th-place finish in shot put and 5th in discus, while Beau Gibson took 6th in shot put. Broxtyn Emrick finished 6th in the high jump, and both Carson Penhorwood and Camden Vollrath placed in pole vault, finishing 7th and 8th, respectively.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Nolan Parmer, Broxtyn Emrick, Caleb Hudson, and Jax Fleming also placed 8th.
On the girls’ side, Bellefontaine competed in a 19-team invitational and finished 13th overall. Annie Gallaway led the way with a 1st-place finish in shot put and 2nd in discus. Gianna Davis placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash, along with a 5th-place finish in the 100 and 6th in the 200.
Kylie Lowe added a 3rd-place finish in the 1600 and took 7th in pole vault, while Braelynn Neer contributed with 5th-place finishes in both shot put and discus.
Bellefontaine returns to action Monday at an open meet at North Union.
Riverside Pirates
DeGraff Riverside Junior High hosted a meet on April 30 and made the most of the opportunity, with every athlete contributing points and several recording personal bests.
Among the highlights, Korbin Osborne posted a personal best in the 100 meters and added a strong discus throw. Landon Olinger recorded a PR in the 200 and also competed in the 100.
Charlie Varian turned in one of the top all-around performances with strong efforts in the long jump, high jump, and a personal best in the 400. Jacob Wren achieved a personal best in pole vault and competed in both hurdle events.
MJ Castallante recorded PRs in shot put and long jump, along with a strong discus performance.
On the girls’ side, Izzy Hudson competed in the 100 and 400, while Gracie Popp and Shaylin Giles added solid sprint performances. Avery Wheeler contributed to the long jump.
The boys’ 4×100-meter relay team of Landon Allen, Landon Olinger, Charlie Varian, and Braeden Harshbarger also turned in a strong performance.
Area teams will continue their seasons this week as both high school and junior high athletes prepare for the final stretch of the track season.
