Bellefontaine tennis loses first match of the year to strong Northwestern side

The Bellefontaine girls tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling to a strong Northwestern team 4-1.

The Chieftains picked up their lone victory at second singles, where Rylee Crabtree battled back after dropping the opening set to defeat Moore 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

At first singles, Mia Brown faced last year’s state qualifier Sadie Pilsen and fell 0-6, 1-6.

Olivia Warye also came up short at third singles, losing to Errett 3-6, 4-6.

Northwestern completed the team victory by winning both doubles matches. At first doubles, Vasquez and Barton fell to Jahna and Hager 2-6, 4-6. At second doubles, Pulfer and Arruzza lost to Blankley and Conway 4-6, 3-6.

Bellefontaine will look to bounce back Wednesday when the Chieftains host Springfield High School.
