Benjamin Logan, Calvary Christian earn boys soccer victories

Benjamin Logan 1, Urbana 0 (boys)

The Benjamin Logan boys soccer team traveled to Urbana and came away with a 1-0 victory.

Brock Henry scored the game-winning goal with 16 minutes remaining, finishing off a long throw-in from Bodie Clapsaddle.

Goalkeeper Carter Phillips made five saves to record his fifth shutout of the season.

The Raiders have now won six straight games and improve to 9-3-3 on the season.

Benjamin Logan will host its final home regular-season game Monday against Miller City, which enters the matchup with a 10-0-3 record and a number-four state ranking in Division Five. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Calvary Christian 3, Spencerville 1 (boys)

The Calvary Christian boys soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Spencerville on Senior Night.

Senior Brett Gildow, junior Cale Buchenroth and senior Ransom Lambert each scored a goal for the Spartans. Junior Aiden Keller added an assist.

The victory made for a memorable Senior Night, with Gildow and Lambert both finding the back of the net.

Calvary Christian honored seniors Ransom Lambert, Zack Hart and Brett Gildow for their leadership and commitment to the program.

Newton 2, West Liberty-Salem 1 (girls)

The West Liberty-Salem girls soccer team fell to Newton 2-1 at home.

Avery Brown scored the lone goal for the Tigers, while goalkeeper Ella Jacobs recorded eight saves.

West Liberty-Salem drops to 7-6-2 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play.

The Tigers will travel to Urbana Monday for a nonconference doubleheader with the boys team. The girls match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., following the boys game.
