Lady Raiders track and field makes good showing in Regionals; Laker jumper heads to state

The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders track & field team placed 29th in a field of 40 teams in Saturday’s finals of the regional tournament.

The team entered the meet by qualifying from the District Championships, 8 athletes covering 9 of the 17 events in high school track and field.

The Raiders made a good showing in the meet to continue an outstanding season.

The team placed 3rd in the CBC championship, just 2 points out of 2nd place.

In the Southwest District meet, they placed 3rd, just 3 points from 2nd place.

The following are the results of the regional finals competition:

  • Discus: 11th place – Kyla Godwin (103-08).
  • Long Jump: 4th place – Abby Vance (17-05) – qualified for the State Meet.
  • Pole Vault: 10th place – Penelope Elliott (9-00), NH – Scarlett Elliott.

Abby Vance will compete in the long jump at the OHSAA State Track & Field Championships on Saturday, June 7, at 9:30 am.

The events are at The Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Indian Lake jumper Ava Faler cleared 5-2 at the OHSAA DII Region 8 Championships, placing 5th and securing an at-large bid to the state championships.

The top 4 qualifiers from each region, along with the next two performances from across the state from all regions, advance.

The state-bound Laker jumper competes on Friday at 9:30 am at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
