In a busy night of soccer, the Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake teams showcased their skills with varied outcomes.
The Benjamin Logan boys varsity soccer team secured a 6-3 victory against Northwestern. The first half was a nail-biter, ending 4-3, but the Raiders tightened their defense and kept the pressure on in the second half to pull away with the win. Eric Hughes led with two goals, and additional scores came from Ethan Miller, Aidan Todd, Gavin Jordan, and Carter Lyden. Key assists were provided by Landen Simon, Aidan Todd, Carter Leyden, and Landon Stoodt. Coach Hughes praised his team’s resilience, stating, “Huge win tonight and I couldn’t be more proud of how the guys played. The game was so wild that first half with both teams finding ways to score, but we really settled down that second half and we were able to limit their attack and keep the pressure on them. A great win but a long way to go.”
In contrast, the Benjamin Logan girls soccer team faced a tough opponent in Northwestern and lost 6-0. Coach Trees remained optimistic despite the setback. “Even though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted, I was pleased with the team’s effort. It’s early, and we’re still trying to find our fit with a lot of our underclassmen,” he said. The Raiders, now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mad River division, will play a CBC crossover game against Bellefontaine at home on Monday, September 9, at 7:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the Lady Chiefs had a strong performance, defeating the London Red Raiders 3-1. Callie Shumaker scored twice, and Elaina Ullom added another goal. The defense, led by juniors Ava Watson and Addison Wical, was solid, and goalkeeper Emma Whitaker made 11 saves. Coach Shumaker noted, “The game was really in control for the entire contest. We kept the Lady Red Raiders at bay, and they only managed to score with about a minute left in the game.” The Chiefs will face Ben Logan on Monday night for another CBC matchup.
The Indian Lake High School Varsity Boys soccer team had a standout performance, defeating Springfield Shawnee 7-0. Avery Pequignot led the scoring with five goals, while Chase Schaub added two more. Carson Clary contributed three assists, and Griffin Schaub, Will Faler, and Aidan Stinebaugh each provided an assist. In goal, Colten Corcoran earned a shutout, with a defensive lineup of Cameron Freyhof, Jacob Freyhof, Cason Lacher, and Stevie Spofford limiting Springfield Shawnee to just two shots on goal. This dominant display underscores the team’s strong offensive and defensive capabilities as they continue their season.
