The Benjamin Logan boys varsity soccer team secured the outright CBC Mad River Division championship Wednesday night with a commanding 2-0 win over London.

Senior standout Landen Simon led the Raiders with a goal and an assist, while Luke Vesely added a goal, and Aidan Todd notched an assist. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Joe Meeker and the backline earned their ninth shutout of the season, showcasing the team’s resilience and grit.

The win marks Benjamin Logan’s fourth league title in the last six seasons and improves their record to 11-3-1 with one game remaining.

“I can’t say enough about how proud I am of these young men. We’ve been banged up and stretched in every direction. It’s been hard to even get consistent practice in since August. But these guys show up every game, play their hearts out, and have put together an amazing season. Getting back on top in the league was goal number one from the start, and clinching it early takes a lot of pressure off. They deserve it.”

– Head Coach Jamie Hughes

Earlier this week, the Benjamin Logan girls’ varsity soccer team traveled to London and picked up a dominant 9-1 victory, tying the school record for wins in a season.

Paisley Rodenberger led the scoring barrage with a hat trick (3 goals). Daylin Varner and Brooklyn Smedley each scored twice, while Kaylee Hays and Lucy Johns added a goal apiece. Assists came from Ella Chamberlain (2), Hays, and Smedley.

The Lady Raiders now look to close the regular season at home with two games next week — Monday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Bellefontaine boys soccer team suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Graham on October 1. Despite an evenly matched contest, Graham capitalized on two opportunities, scoring once just before halftime (25′) and again early in the second half (1′).

Bellefontaine drops to 2-11-0 overall (1-7-0 CBC) and will look to regroup in their next match on Monday, October 6, at Shawnee.

“The last 10 minutes we played with urgency and intensity. If we brought that energy for the full 80 minutes, we’d be a different team. But that mental switch is tough to flip for some players without an external trigger.”

– Head Coach Steve Henry

The Bellefontaine girls’ soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Graham behind another record-breaking performance from Callie Shumaker, who scored her 30th goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Emma Whitaker was stellar in net, making 13 saves and also assisting on the match-winning goal. With the win, the Chiefs improve to 6-9 on the season.

The West Liberty-Salem girls’ soccer team suffered a 6-1 home loss to Greeneview.

Arianna Weaver scored the lone goal for the Tigers. In goal, Kaylee Blair recorded 14 saves, with Ella Jacobs adding 4 more.

WL-S now stands at 4-7-1 overall (3-3 in conference). They’ll host Urbana on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., a non-league game that will also feature Youth Day celebrations during halftime of both the girls’ and boys’ matches.
