A full slate of high school basketball action highlighted Saturday across the area, with several teams earning key conference wins, celebrating Senior Day, and advancing in postseason play. From dominant performances on both ends of the floor to tight finishes decided in the final minutes, local programs were busy as the regular season continues to wind down.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
VARSITY GIRLS — Benjamin Logan 49, Springfield Shawnee 39
Benjamin Logan capped off Senior Day with a 49–39 win over visiting Springfield Shawnee.
Kylie Harner led the Lady Raiders with 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Adilynne Gregg followed with 10 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Elliott Butler scored eight points, Rylan Norviel added five, Molly Siefring and Daylin Varner each finished with four, Kaylee Hays scored three, and Paislee Rodenberger and Joplin Schneider chipped in two apiece.
Benjamin Logan improves to 8–10 on the season and travels to Triad on Monday. Triad does not field a JV team.
JV — Benjamin Logan 47, Bethel 38
Addison Kuhn led the Raiders with 11 points and seven rebounds. Madison Shields scored nine points with five rebounds, Jozie Taylor added eight points and four steals, and Brielle Kline finished with six points and four rebounds. The JV Lady Raiders improve to 12–5 with one game remaining.
VARSITY GIRLS — Mechanicsburg 68, Triad 18
Mechanicsburg dominated from start to finish Saturday night, defeating Triad 68–18.
The Indians jumped out to a 20–5 first-quarter lead and never looked back, leading 41–9 at halftime. Clara Forrest led Mechanicsburg with 14 points, while Taylor Heizer added 11 and Avery McDowell finished with 10.
For Triad, Gracie Martin recorded four points, four rebounds, and two assists. Emma Martin added four points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Lacey Travis pulled down four rebounds. Triad falls to 0–21 overall and 0–16 in the OHC.
VARSITY GIRLS — North Union 52, Indian Lake 27
Indian Lake battled defensively but fell 52–27 to North Union on Saturday.
Carly Strayer led the Lakers with nine points. Alivia Kinney and Bre Wisener each added five. Indian Lake looks to bounce back Monday night when they host Lehman Catholic on Senior Night.
8TH GRADE GIRLS — Bellefontaine 32, Graham 12
Bellefontaine rolled past Graham 32–12 Saturday morning in the CBC Tournament, advancing with a dominant defensive performance.
The Lady Chieftains led 9–2 after the first quarter and carried an 18–2 advantage into halftime. Graham was held scoreless in the third quarter as Bellefontaine extended the lead to 23–2 before closing out the win.
Kennedy Hairston led the Chiefs with 13 points. Annie Gallaway added eight, Zyannia Bean-Breaston scored six, Gianna Davis had three, and Samantha Bricker finished with two.
Bellefontaine returns to action Monday at Benjamin Logan in the second round of the CBC Tournament.
BOYS BASKETBALL
VARSITY BOYS — Indian Lake 67, Graham 43
Indian Lake earned a convincing home win Saturday night, pulling away from Graham for a 67–43 victory.
Brodey Reisinger led all scorers with 20 points for the Lakers. Avery Pequignot added 11 points, while Cooper Hall chipped in 10 to round out the balanced scoring effort.
JV — Indian Lake 47, Graham 18
Nixon Lillard paced the Lakers with 14 points in the JV win.
VARSITY BOYS — Shawnee 37, Benjamin Logan 35
Benjamin Logan came up just short Saturday afternoon, falling 37–35 to visiting Shawnee in a tightly contested game.
Roman Maxwell and Clayton Jenkins each scored seven points to lead the Raiders. Maxwell also added seven rebounds and a block. Maddox Vermillion finished with six points and three rebounds, while Christian Rogan contributed six points and two steals. Carter Fay added four points and four rebounds, Cayden Brown chipped in three points with two steals, and Roman Maxwell anchored the paint on both ends.
JV — Benjamin Logan 53, Shawnee 26
Adam Tinsman led the Raiders with 11 points. Owen Stratton followed with 10, and Gabe Predmore added nine in the win.
VARSITY BOYS — West Liberty-Salem 42, Jackson Center 40
West Liberty-Salem edged Jackson Center 42–40 Saturday night to improve to 14–3 overall and 11–2 in the OHC.
Troy Christison led the Tigers with 11 points, while Brandel Sullivan added 10. Carson Poppe scored seven, Sutton Wilcoxon finished with five, Beckett Sullivan added four, Brevin Louden scored three, and Sam Strapp chipped in two.
JVA — West Liberty-Salem 38, Jackson Center 23
Asher Cole led the Tigers with 10 points. Josiah Johnson scored eight, Casey Boyer added seven, and Liam Barger finished with five.
JVB — West Liberty-Salem 60, Jackson Center 27
Eli Jones, Austin Markin, and Grant Krabill each scored 12 points to lead the Tigers. Rylan Leichty added 10, while Elijah Filio scored six, Tyler Hershberger five, and Reghan McCullough three.
West Liberty-Salem returns to action Friday, February 6, at Mechanicsburg.
