Bellefontaine Middle School cross country teams had a strong showing at the Northwestern Classic on Saturday.
The girls team placed fifth out of 17 teams in the varsity race, led by Kylie Lowe, who finished fourth in 13:32, and Baya Deal, who took eighth in 14:40.
Alivia Owens earned an individual medal in 28th place (16:09), while Myra Varner (59th, 19:06) and Bentley Drake (66th, 20:53) rounded out the scoring for the Chiefs.
The race featured 85 runners in total.
Meanwhile, the boys team claimed first place out of 16 teams, highlighted by a trio of medalists: Jackson Maus in second (12:15), Sennett Stolly in third (12:33), and Camden Vollrath in eighth (13:02).
Additional top finishers included Bennett Lang (15th, 13:27) and Lucas Lin (41st, 14:51).
Other runners contributing to the win were Anthony Carter (50th), Jayden Lambert (52nd), and Owen Smith (57th), all putting in strong performances in their first XC races.
A total of 91 boys competed in the race.
Both teams will return to action on Tuesday at the Logan County Meet at Indian Lake.
