The Bellefontaine girls cross country team opened their season with an impressive showing at the Bob Schul Invitational, finishing sixth out of sixteen teams in the D1/D2 race.
Leading the Lady Chieftains was junior Grace Brown, who earned second place with a time of 19:29.
Following her was Hannah Wilson, also a junior, who finished 34th with a lifetime personal record of 23:04.
Additional top finishers for Bellefontaine included Cece Reier (47th, 23:49), Blakely Vollrath (51st, 24:04), Cameo Greene (54th, 24:08), Leila Hammond (71st, 24:56), and Sophia Marker (96th, 26:59).
Coach Wilson praised the team’s effort, saying,
“The girls’ hard work this summer is already paying off. A sixth-place finish is a huge improvement from last season and will set the tone for the weeks to come. Racing against post-season competition allows us to see where we’re at and what to focus on. We’ve got a gritty team this season — today was just the start.”
The Lady Chieftains will continue their season with upcoming meets, looking to build on this strong start.
