Several area wrestling teams were in action Saturday, competing at multiple invitationals across central Ohio and turning in strong individual performances along with solid team finishes at both the high school and middle school levels.

BENJAMIN LOGAN MIDDLE SCHOOL

Benjamin Logan’s middle school programs also had a strong week of competition.

The MS girls competed at the Heart of Ohio Tournament in Mechanicsburg and were led by Bristol Blair, who went 3-0 to win the 170-pound championship. Monroe Thompson and Carolyn Wickline also recorded notable wins.

The MS boys captured 1st place out of 17 teams at the Shawnee Junior High Wrestling Championships in Lima.
Individual champions included Cayde Buck, Owen Marshall, Kaleb Linkinhoker, Carter Crumm, and Bently Lewis.

INDIAN LAKE HS BOYS

The Laker men wrestled at the Chuck Forward Duals in Archbold on Saturday and brought home a runner-up team trophy. Indian Lake defeated Edgerton, Defiance, Tiffin Calvert, and Van Wert before falling in the final to Archbold 41-32 in a tight match.

Several wrestlers turned in standout performances:

  • 150 lb — Bronx Dickson

  • 165 lb — Logan Hale

All Lakers wrestlers won matches and contributed to the runner-up finish.

Indian Lake returns to the mats Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Versailles in a dual meet and will compete Jan. 30-31 at the Sam Ridder Invitational in Eaton.

WEST LIBERTY-SALEM HS GIRLS

19th place out of 60 teams

WL-S girls wrestled tough at the Heart of Ohio Invitational, earning multiple podium finishes in a deep 60-team field.

  • 100 lbs — Jenna Cline (3rd place)
    Went 3-1 with three pins

  • 110 lbs — Chloe Griffith (3rd place)
    Went 4-1 with two pins and one tech fall

  • 115 lbs — Shelby Vincent
    Went 2-2 with two pins

  • 120 lbs — Hayes Wise
    Went 0-2

The Tigers will return to the mat Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Fairbanks Scramble.

MECHANICSBURG HS GIRLS

5th place out of 50 teams

Despite a small lineup, the girls’ team delivered an impressive fifth-place finish out of 50 teams.

    Senior went 3-0 to win the championship

  • Bella Hughes (Runner-up)
    Went 3-1 and reached the championship match

  • Livi Achor (3rd place)
    Went 5-1 on the day

  • Makenley Harker (4th place)

  • Addie Anderson — two wins

  • Madalene Campbell (Freshman) — battled tough all day

The girls return to action Thursday the 22nd at home for Senior Night, starting at 6:00 p.m.
