Coach Ben Davis had this to say, “Overall a positive experience for our crew coming off our girl’s regional championship. Kelsie had a career meet with PRs in both of her events reeling in 3rd and 9th place.   She showed no signs of being a freshman. Our jumpers had a challenging day departing at 6:45 am, jumping early am with Kylie jumping a couple of hours, and coming back later in the day in the sultry 90-plus-degree heat to run.  Tony’s experience will serve as a springboard for a strong senior XC and track campaign.  We return everyone, but Sully, on our state squad to vie for another berth next season.  The potential will be there to increase this year’s point total and shoot for a top 5 team spot.”

Sprint Coach Sigrist added, “So incredibly proud of our sprint group. Ava raced against a really good field in the 100 and ran close to her personal best. She came back and just missed out on qualifying for finals in the Long jump. Kylie had 3 really tough events. Getting 4th in the long jump behind two state champs is great.  Her 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles were a gauntlet to get through. Of the 18 qualifiers combined 12 were on the podium last year. She ran a near-perfect race in both and she is hungrier than ever to come back next year and move up the podium.”

The West Liberty-Salem boys track team completed their season at the OHSAA Division 3 Track Meet held at Jesse Owens Stadium Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the 4x800m relay of Quentin Rudolph, Micah Smith, Troy Bradley, and Owen Harrison finished 16th in 8:18.77.

Logan Phillips finished 10th overall in the 110m hurdles running 15.20 in his preliminary race.

On Saturday,  Asher Knox finished 9th place in the 3200m in 9:46.37.

Owen Harrison finished 13th place the 3200m in 10:10.95.

For Triad, Cayla Eaton placed 6th in the 100-meter hurdles. This was her second appearance at the state meet, but her first time qualifying for the finals.
