The Chiefs 12U baseball team had an impressive showing this weekend at the Marion Merchants Tournament, capping off the event with a dominant 9–1 victory to claim the championship.
Saturday Play: The weekend began with a hard-fought 7–9 loss to the UC Tigers Marshall 12U.
Despite the setback, JuJu Anderson led the charge with a jaw-dropping 4 home runs in 4 at-bats.
Tovan Benton Jr. and Brentlee Bach also added hits for the Chiefs.
In their second game Saturday, the Chiefs bounced back with a 10–6 win over Bloom Carroll Bulldogs 12U – Schmitt.
Contributing offensively were Briar Barber, Korbin Smith, Will Robb, Parker Artis, and Brentlee Bach, all recording hits.
Sunday Bracket Play: Entering Sunday’s bracket play as the No. 2 seed, the Chiefs continued their momentum with a 5–2 win over The Green Sox Bailey 12U.
Tovan Benton Jr. pitched a standout game, allowing just 2 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings.
At the plate, Artis, Bach, and Barber each recorded hits, with Barber adding a home run.
In the championship rematch against UC Tigers Marshall 12U, the Chiefs turned the tables in a big way, cruising to a 9–1 victory.
Benton powered the offense with a home run, while Anderson, Bach, Robb, Palmer, and Smith all contributed hits.
On the mound, Palmer delivered a dominant performance, striking out 11 batters over 6 innings.
The Chiefs will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to West Liberty on Tuesday to face the West Liberty-Salem Tigers 12U.
