Chieftain boys’ tennis open the week with a pair of sweeps

Bellefontaine turned in a pair of dominant team performances to open the week, sweeping both Northeastern and Tecumseh by identical 5-0 scores.

Monday: Bellefontaine 5, Northeastern 0

Bellefontaine earned a clean sweep over Northeastern, highlighted by a thrilling three-set battle at first singles and strong performances across the lineup.

Max Fissel delivered the match of the day at first singles, outlasting Luke Jane in a tightly contested three-set tiebreak showdown. Fissel claimed the opener in a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak before dropping the second set in another tiebreak, 7-6 (8-6). He responded in the deciding set, winning a super tiebreak 10-5 to secure the point.

At second singles, Mason Phillips bounced back after dropping the first set 6-3 to Ethan Schmersal, dominating the final two sets 6-1, 6-2 to earn the win. Liam Scott added a straight-sets victory at third singles, defeating E. Roblero 6-4, 6-3.

The doubles teams were equally impressive. Jared Young and Grayson Lotts were flawless at first doubles, shutting out Locke and Moore 6-0, 6-0. Lane Howard and Deacon Lloyd completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win at second doubles over Santiago and Wyatt.

Tuesday: Bellefontaine 5, Tecumseh 0

The Chiefs followed up with another dominant outing on Tuesday, sweeping Tecumseh with all five courts winning in straight sets.

Max Fissel set the tone once again at first singles, cruising past Pehrea 6-1, 6-1. Mason Phillips continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-4 win at second singles over Augustis.

At third singles, Harrison Fissel stepped in and delivered a solid performance, defeating Olive 6-0, 6-4.

Bellefontaine’s doubles teams remained sharp. Jared Young and Grayson Lotts controlled their match from start to finish, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory at first doubles. Lane Howard and Deacon Lloyd capped off the team sweep with another convincing win, 6-1, 6-1, at second doubles over Aguilar and Roads.

Bellefontaine’s depth and consistency were on full display across both matches, as the Chiefs did not drop a single team point while combining for multiple straight-set victories and dominant doubles play.
