Chieftain Swimmers Shine at Sectionals, Prepare for Districts

The Chieftain Swim Team had an impressive performance at the sectional tournament this past weekend.

Elias Abrego was named sectional champion, winning both the 50 Free and 100 Free, while setting a personal record in the process.

Seventy-four percent of the swimmers achieved lifetime bests, with standout performances including:

  • Emma Merrin, who dropped 27 seconds in the 500 Free
  • Will Myers, who dropped 13 seconds in the 500 Free
  • Ella Fultz, who dropped 12.5 seconds in the 500 Free
  • Grady Feasel, who dropped 8.5 seconds in the 200 IM
  • Gillian Steele, who dropped 9 seconds in the 200 IM

The team also saw 11 district qualifying races, including top finishes by:

  • Elias Abrego, 11th in both the 50 Free and 100 Free
  • Brooklyne Kuntz, 12th in both the 200 IM and 100 Fly
  • Ryan Alexander, 29th in the 200 Free
  • Kate Myers, 27th in the 500 Free

The boys’ and girls’ relays also had strong showings:

  • Boys Medley Relay (Beckham Harman, Cody Hudson, Elias Abrego, Ryan Alexander) placed 19th
  • Girls Medley Relay (Brooklyne Kuntz, Eliana Ullom, Kate Myers, Kaeleigh Flora) placed 22nd
  • Boys 400 Free Relay (Jaylen Henry, Will Myers, Ryan Alexander, Elias Abrego) placed 21st
  • Girls 400 Free Relay (Kate Myers, Emma Nieto, Kaeleigh Flora, Brooklyne Kuntz) placed 18th
  • Boys 200 Free Relay (Jaylen Henry, Grady Feasel, Cody Hudson, Beckham Harman) placed 34th (alternate)

With Elias and Brooklyne leading the way, the team is in strong positions for the upcoming district races, which will take place this Friday at Miami University.
