Chieftains sweep county swim meet

The Logan County swim meet was held Tuesday at the Hilliker YMCA in Bellefontaine.

Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, and Indian Lake took the pool for their final home meet of the season.

The Lady Chiefs won the meet with 105 points, Indian Lake was second with 73 points, and Benjamin Logan was third with 42 points.

“Our girls were led by their seniors tonight: Joslyn Robinson, Morgan Henry, and Olivia Ullom combined for 8 top 2 finishes including their relays,” said Head Coach Sharon Lewis. “From there, the team played on their depth. The B relays swam solid races to grab additional points for the team and 10 girls scored individually.”

Indian Lake:

Lily Jenkins – 1st place 100-yard butterfly

Annie Braig – 1st place 500-yard freestyle (set a new school record with a time of 6:40.34)

Girls 400-yard freestyle relay (Jenkins, Grace Pequignot, Paige Mefford, and Braig) – 1st place

Grace Pequignot – 2nd place 100-yard backstroke

Paige Mefford – 2nd place 100-yard freestyle

Girls 200-yard Medley Relay (Pequignot, Mefford, Jenkins, and Ashlynn Biederman) – 2nd place

Girls 200 freestyle Relay (Jenkins, Pequignot, Mefford, and Braig) – 2nd place

Indian Lake will hit the pool again Wednesday at Trotwood.

For the boys, Bellefontaine won with 92 points followed by Benjamin Logan in second with 82 points, and Indian Lake third with 37 points.

“Starting with the very first relay, a come-from-behind victory by only 0.2, this meet was exciting,” said Coach Lewis. “The boys had to battle in every race and every participating boy contributed to our team score. Seniors Aidan Mifsud and Blake McDonald combined for 6 top-two finishes including their relays.”

The Bellefontaine boys and girls swim team will compete Sunday in a tri-meet at Sidney.
