The Church League Softball tournament concluded Thursday night as #4 seed Cornerstone Church beat #6 seed First Church of God in the championship game 20-14.
FCOG jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead only to see Cornerstone tie the game after the first inning.
Cornerstone started pulling away with a 12-6 lead only to see FCOG claw their way back to within one at 14-13 after the top of the sixth.
Cornerstone plated six runs in the bottom of the sixth and held off First Church in the top of the seventh to claim victory.
Clay Jacobs hit a 2-run homer for Cornerstone to help lead the offense.
First Church of God ends their season at 6-5 while Cornerstone finishes 9-2.
This is Cornerstone’s second championship in the last four seasons (2022).
The Church Softball League runs each summer with games at Gretna Fellowship Field.
Churches participating this summer were: Bellefontaine Grace (two teams), Cornerstone in Huntsville, First Church of God, Goshen Friends, Gretna, Quest, Redemption (two teams), and Christ Our King.
