Daniels breaks BL high jump record, Indian Lakes battles in tri-meet

Area track and field teams battled cold conditions Tuesday evening, but still turned in strong performances across the board. Benjamin Logan picked up dual meet wins on both the boys and girls sides, while Indian Lake’s boys claimed a tri-meet victory and the girls added a runner-up finish with several event wins.

Benjamin Logan Boys 87.5, North Union 76.5

Benjamin Logan earned a strong team victory over North Union in a competitive dual meet Tuesday evening, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from senior Carter Daniels.

Daniels stole the spotlight in the field events, clearing 14-8 in the pole vault to set a new school record, surpassing the previous mark of 14-7 held by Jace Wical. The performance led a well-rounded effort for the Raiders on a cold night.

Benjamin Logan dominated multiple field events. Gus Bibart swept the throws, winning discus (134-7) and shot put (41-3), while Nate Mitchell added a third-place finish in discus and a personal-best fourth in shot put. Roman Maxwell was another standout, winning both the high jump (5-8) and long jump (19-0.5 PR), while also contributing in relays.

Additional field event contributors included Owen Stratton (3rd, high jump), Joe Meeker (4th, high jump PR), Alex Hassel (3rd, long jump), and Ian Henault (4th, long jump PR). In the pole vault, Elliott Carpenter and Kyle Kibler both cleared 9-6 to place third.

On the track, the Raiders consistently placed near the top. Cooper Buck led the charge by winning the 300-meter hurdles (45.17) and adding a second-place finish in the 110 hurdles. Alex Hassel (2nd, 100 PR) and Hayden Hites (3rd, 100 PR) turned in strong sprint performances, while Wyatt Predmore took second in the 200 with a personal-best time.

In distance events, Greyson Butler (2nd), Luke Vesley (3rd), and Max Troth (4th) paced the Raiders in the 1600, while Gavin Jordan added a runner-up finish in the 800.

Benjamin Logan also excelled in relays, winning both the 4×200 (Buck, Hites, Davis Matthews, Candin Tucker – 1:37.15) and 4×400 (Tyler Shoopman, Buck, Maxwell, Matthews – 3:47.53). Shoopman also placed second in the 400.

The Raiders will return to action Friday at the Spencerville Relays.

Benjamin Logan Girls 98, North Union 60

The Benjamin Logan girls delivered a dominant performance in cold, sunny conditions, powered by balance across relays, distance, sprints, and field events.

The Lady Raiders won three of the four relays, including the 4×800 team of Peyton Smith, Lucy Wenger, Elliot Butler, and Molly Siefring (12:31), while also adding strong showings in the 4×200 and 4×400.

Individually, Abby Vance led the way with wins in the 100 dash (13.3) and long jump (16-03), while also placing second in the 200. Gwendolyn Smith won the 1600 (6:22.39) and added a third-place finish in the 800, where Lottie Bodin placed second. Aleah France claimed the 400 (1:10.27), and Sarah Miller won the 300 hurdles (1:01.05).

In the field events, Kyla Godwin took first in discus (115-01), and Scarlett Elliott won the pole vault (8-0), with Penelope Elliott finishing second at the same height.

Coaches highlighted the importance of relay success and overall team depth, noting that 17 athletes competed in their first varsity meet, showing steady improvement throughout.

Benjamin Logan returns to action Friday at the Spencerville Relays.

Indian Lake Boys Win Tri-Meet; Girls Finish Second

Indian Lake’s boys team claimed victory in a tri-meet at Waynesfield-Goshen, scoring 82 points to top Waynesfield-Goshen (62) and Jackson Center (28). On the girls side, the Lakers placed second with 49 points, behind Waynesfield-Goshen’s 83.

The Laker boys were led by multiple first-place finishes across both track and field events. Noah Shirk won the 110-meter hurdles (17.69), while Gavin Henry took first in the 300 hurdles (43.20). Christopher Timms dominated the throws, winning both shot put (52-8.5) and discus (122-10), and Will Faler added a win in the pole vault (10-0).

Indian Lake’s relay teams also delivered, with the 4×100 group of KeShawn Blackwell, Brodey Reisinger, Noah Shirk, and Gavin Henry taking first (47.09), and the 4×200 team of Kade Richardson, JJ Shirk, Blake Sell, and Jordan Henderson also finishing on top (1:42.59).

The Lakers added depth with several runner-up finishes. Silas Holbrook (100), Noah Shirk (200), and Will Faler (800) all placed second, while Wyatt Whitsett (shot put), Hayes Henry (pole vault and 110 hurdles), and Aidan Stinebaugh (long jump, 300 hurdles) contributed valuable points. The 4×400 relay team also finished second.

Third-place finishes came from Reisinger (100, long jump), Richardson (200), Carson Clary (400), Cason Lacher (1600), Blake Sell (high jump), and Nathan White (pole vault), while multiple fourth-place efforts added to the team total.

For the Indian Lake girls, Alicia Brielmaier (800), Laura Metzger (1600), and Addison Beck (long jump) each earned first-place finishes. The Lakers also won the 4×100 relay (Piper Warnecke, Diem Martin, Adriana Andres, Maddie Miller) and the 4×800 relay (Metzger, Allison Overmyer, Raelin Klofta, Haley Metzger).

Second-place finishes included Piper Warnecke (200), Beck (high jump), and the 4×400 relay team. The Lakers also saw multiple third-place finishes from Warnecke (100), Beck (400), Kayleigh Taylor (1600, pole vault), Terra Beltz (shot put), and Cambrie Warnecke (discus).

Indian Lake will next compete at the Springfield Shawnee Invitational on Thursday.
