The West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers edged the Urbana Hillclimbers 55–54 in a Wednesday night girls basketball thriller that came down to the final second.

The game was tight from start to finish, with neither team leading by more than seven points at any time. West Liberty-Salem built a narrow edge late, but the Hillclimbers had one last chance after a pair of missed free throws by the Tigers’ Ava Poppe.
Urbana pushed the ball up the floor, and Janaya Scott was fouled on a three-point attempt as time expired, sending her to the line with a chance to win the game or force overtime. Scott missed all three free throws, sealing the dramatic one-point victory for West Liberty-Salem.
The Tigers improve to 19-2 while the Hillclimbers fall to 14-7. Each team has one game remaining in the regular season on Saturday.

In other girls’ basketball action Wednesday night, North Union defeated Mechanicsburg 65–48.
After a close first half, North Union used a big third quarter to create separation and maintained control down the stretch.
