Falcons beat Russia; Tigers, Raiders fall

Owen Powell collected three hits in four at-bats, as the Graham Falcons beat Russia 11-10 on Saturday.

Powell doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the third and sixth innings.

The Falcons didn’t take the lead until late in the game, though.

Russia jumped on the board first and took advantage of errors to claim a 6-2 lead through the fourth.

Graham captured the lead, 8-6, in the bottom of the fourth after Zach Wheeland hit a sacrifice fly, Powell doubled down the right field line, and Holden Dunham singled down the left field line, each scoring a run.

Russia jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly, a 2-run double, and an RBI single.

It was tied at 10 in the bottom of the sixth when Jack Traylor grounded into a fielder’s choice to score the go-ahead run for the Raiders.

The Falcons regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth, after Adam Levy doubled to right field, and Traylor grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring a run.

Holden Dunham earned the win for Graham.

The hurler allowed five hits and four runs over three innings, striking out none and walking two.

Graham collected 11 hits in the game.

Dunham gathered two RBIs and went 2-for-4 on the day.

Russia piled up 10 hits in the game.

Graham will play at home on Monday against Bellbrook in their next game.

 

The West Liberty-Salem Tigers fell to Madison Plains 3-2 on Saturday on the final play of the game.

The Golden Eagles were down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Xaiden Sharpe singled, scoring two runs.

The pitching was strong on both sides.

Madison Plains pitchers struck out six, while the Tigers sat down seven.

An RBI single by Sharpe in the first put Madison Plains on the board early.

It stayed 1-0 until West Liberty-Salem took the lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Jeremiah Johnson doubled to center field, and Braden Hershberger singled down the right field line, each scoring an RBI.

Johnson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead West Liberty-Salem.

Reese Oder stepped on the bump first for West Liberty-Salem, giving up 10 hits and three runs over six and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking two.

Gavin Rhoads started the game for Madison Plains.

The righty gave up six hits and two runs over six and one-third innings, striking out four with no walks.

Madison Plains piled up 10 hits in the game.

Sharpe provided the much-needed pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Golden Eagles with two RBIs.

The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day.

West Liberty-Salem returns to action at home on Monday against Fairbanks.

 

The Benjamin Logan Raiders could not keep pace with Tecumseh on Saturday, falling 8-4 to the Arrows.

Tecumseh got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Zach Barrows singled to center field.

He then scored after tagging up on a fly out to right, and Reid Olinger got an RBI single to left, giving the Arrows a 2-0 lead after one.

A single by Barrows, a single by Carter Olinger, and a tag-up by Barrows helped Tecumseh extend their early lead in the second.

Tecumseh added one more run in the third after JJ Burcham walked with bases loaded.

Brandon Radford earned the win for Tecumseh.

The pitcher surrendered one hit and one run over six innings, striking out three and walking two.

Jacob Hawley took the loss for Benjamin Logan, going two innings, surrendering seven runs on seven hits, striking out three, and walking two.

Carter Lyden led Benjamin Logan with two RBIs.

The righty went 1-for-3 on the day.

Tecumseh amassed 11 hits in the game.

Number nine hitter, Daniel Cortes, showed the depth of Tecumseh’s lineup, leading them with three hits in three at-bats.

Benjamin Logan will host Riverside on Thursday in their next game.

Tecumseh will host Bellefontaine on Monday.
