Area girls wrestlers battled tough brackets this past weekend at the OHSAA District Tournaments, with several athletes advancing to the state tournament and others finishing strong in highly competitive fields.
District competition was held at Harrison High School and Big Walnut High School, where wrestlers from Indian Lake, Benjamin Logan, Bellefontaine, West Liberty-Salem, Urbana, and Mechanicsburg represented the area. Multiple local athletes reached the podium, including three state qualifiers and one state alternate.
State qualifiers – those finishing in the top four of their weight class – included:
- Indian Lake: Annie Rapp (145 lbs)
- Benjamin Logan: Bella Hughes (130 lbs), Sophia Harris (190 lbs)
- Urbana: Libertie Nigh (105 lbs)
State alternate – fifth-place finisher:
- West Liberty-Salem: Chloe Griffith (110 lbs)
These athletes now advance to the OHSAA State Girls Wrestling Tournament, while several others wrapped up strong seasons with district podium finishes.
