High School Swimmers Compete Over the Weekend

The Lady Chiefs swimmers competed in the Irish Invitational on Sunday, 2/4.

The girls finished 2nd with 85 points, behind Springfield Catholic Central (92), and beating Northwestern, Kenton Ridge, Springfield, Shawnee, and Greenon.

The team had several top 3 finishes and many best times on the day.

Scoring for the Chiefs:

  • Ashton Carey – 8 pts – 4th 200 Free, 6th 100 Free
  • Ella Costin – 6 pts – 3rd 500 Free (PR)
  • Emma Costin – 6 pts – 3rd 200 IM (PR)
  • Kaidi Freeman – 3 pts – 6th 50 Free (PR)
  • Claire Grandstaff – 4 pts – 5th 500 Free (PR)
  • Claire McDaniel – 4 pts – 5th 100 Breast
  • Emma Merrin – 2 pts – 7th 200 Free
  • Zoey Rister – 2 pts – 7th 50 Free
  • Michelle Roberts – 3 pts – 6th 200 IM
  • Gillian Steele – 3 pts – 6th 200 Free

Additionally, senior Ella Costin took on the 500 for the first time, finishing 3rd to earn a medal.

The team next competes in the first round of the OHSAA tournament on Saturday, 2/10 at Trotwood-Madison High School.

 

The Chieftain boys competed in the Irish Invitational on Sunday, 2/4.

The boys won the meet with 163 points, followed by Shawnee & Springfield each with 54, Greenon, Catholic Central, Kenton Ridge, and Northwestern.

In this final regular season competition the Chiefs had many top 3 finishes and personal best times.

The team next competes in the first round of the OHSAA tournament on Friday at Trotwood-Madison High School.

The girls finished tied for 5th or 11 teams with 18 points.

The girls had many personal best times.

Scoring for the Chiefs:

  • Medley Relay – 3rd – Kaidi Freeman, Ashton Carey, Kate Myers, Zoey Rister
  • 400 Free Relay – 3rd – Kate Myers, Zoey Rister, Gillian Steele, Ashton Carey
  • Kate Myers – 7th 200 Free (PR), 5th 100 Back (PR)
  • Ashton Carey – 5th 200 IM, 6th 100 Breast
  • Zoey Rister – 5th 100 Free

In addition to the scorers, the team had many personal best times.

Leading the drops were Claire Grandstaff -7.25 in 200 free & -0.92 in 100 Free and Ella Fultz dropping 2.42 in 100 Free.

 

The Chieftain swimmers competed in the Raider Invitational on Saturday, 2/3.

The boys finished 2nd with 60 points, behind Olentangy Orange High School (68), and beating Logan Elm, Ben Logan, Canal Winchester, Zenia, Ansonia, Arcanum, & Marysville.

Scoring for the Chiefs:

  • 200 Medley Relay -3rd – John Fulmer, Cody Hudson, Nolan Core, Ryan Alexander
  • 200 Free Relay – 3rd – Cooper Harman, Nolan Core, Beckham Harman, Elias Abrego
  • 400 Free Relay – 2nd – John Fulmer, Ryan Alexander, Cooper Harman, Elias Abrego

Additionally, there were 11 season best times, many of which were lifetime bests for the swimmers.

 

The Raiders hosted their 1st ever swim meet at the Marysville YMCA on Saturday.

The girls placed 4th out of 11 teams scoring 22 points.

The boys placed 4th out of 9 teams scoring 40 points.

Coach Sweeney commented “This was a good meet in preparation for our sectional meet next weekend. We had some kids drop some time to put them close to district time cuts. I am looking forward to our sectional meet at Trotwood Friday night for the boys and Saturday morning for the girls team to see what we can do. I would also like to recognize Bellefontaine’s coach Sharon Lewis and Marysville’s coach Michael Waun for their assistance at the meet.”

Notable PRs:

  • MJ Ricketts had a time drop of just under 10 seconds in the 100 free
  • Anni Kuntonen had a drop of over 12 seconds in the 200 free
  • Joe Meeker a drop of over 9 seconds in the 100 breast
  • Utah Coleman a drop of almost 3.5 seconds in the 100 free to finish under a minute for the first time.
