Urbana 9, Indian Lake 7

Urbana and Indian Lake went toe-to-toe in a back-and-forth battle, and the Lady Hillclimbers had the final answer in a thrilling 9-7 win.

Indian Lake came out swinging with a huge first inning. MacKenzie Miller was hit by a pitch, Izzi Mackesy reached on an error, and Brylee Buyer drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. A wild pitch brought in the first run, then Annie Rapp cleared the bases with a double to deep center. She later scored on another wild pitch to cap a four-run frame and give the Lakers a 4-0 lead.

Urbana chipped away in the second. Bailee Packer led off with a single and later scored after Maley Pine doubled and a flyout brought her home to make it 4-1.

The Hillclimbers surged back in the fourth to tie it. Morgan Hoffman led off with a triple and scored on a Packer single. Morgan Boyd followed with a base hit, and Pine drove in another with a double. After a walk loaded the bases, Isla Wooten came through with a one-out single to center, knotting things up at four.

Indian Lake briefly reclaimed the lead on an RBI groundout from Kiylee Haude, but Urbana answered right back in the fifth—and this time, they took control. Hoffman walked, stole second, and scored on another Packer single. Boyd doubled to put two in scoring position, and Lillian Webb delivered the big swing with a two-RBI double. Aubriee Reynolds added another on a groundout, pushing the lead to 8-5.

The Lakers made it interesting in the sixth with a two-out rally. Kyler Carruthers doubled, and after two outs, Miller singled her home. Mackesy followed with an RBI knock to cut it to a one-run game.

Urbana added a key insurance run on an Addie Fox single, and Wooten shut things down from there to lock up the win.

Packer led the charge for Urbana, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Webb drove in three. For Indian Lake, Rapp had a two-hit day with two RBIs, and Mackesy and Payton Davis also recorded two hits each.

Urbana improves to 5-3 and will head to Greeneview on Saturday, while Indian Lake falls to 3-5 and travels to Tri-Village.

Riverside 14, Lehman Catholic 1 (5 innings)

Riverside wasted no time getting the bats going and never let up, rolling to a 14-1 run-rule win over Lehman Catholic.

The Lady Pirates jumped out early in the first. Keira Manahan reached on an error, Chloe Purtee followed with a single, and Emilee Robinson brought in the first run with a sac fly. Zoey Ransbottom added an RBI double, and Molly Carman capped the inning with a run-scoring groundout to make it 3-0.

They kept it rolling in the second. With the bases loaded and two outs, Robinson hit a scorching grounder that couldn’t be handled, allowing two more runs to score.

After a quiet third inning that saw Lehman get on the board via a passed ball, Riverside blew things open in the fourth. Manahan walked, Purtee singled, and Robinson delivered again with a two-RBI double. Ransbottom followed with a triple to bring Robinson home, and Carman added another RBI on a groundout to stretch the lead to 9-1.

The Pirates put the finishing touches on in the fifth. An error in center field brought in two runs, Ransbottom tripled again, and Carman launched a two-run homer to seal the run-rule victory.

Manahan was just as impressive in the circle, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Carman led the way with four RBIs on a two-hit day, while Ransbottom went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Manahan scored four times and drew two walks, and Purtee added two hits and three runs.

Riverside moves to 7-5 and will compete in the Newton Classic on Saturday with games against Newton and Tri-Village.

Greenon 13, Mechanicsburg 12 (8 innings)

Mechanicsburg battled all the way back from a huge deficit, but Greenon had the final answer in extras, handing the Lady Indians a heartbreaking 13-12 loss in eight innings.

The Lady Indians struck first, plating three runs across the first two innings. Chuckie Dale delivered an RBI single to get things started and later scored on a passed ball, and Birdie Wilhelm added an RBI groundout in the second to make it 3-0.

Greenon chipped away in the third, using an error and a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-2—then completely flipped the game in the fourth.

The Lady Knights erupted for nine runs in the inning, collecting eight hits and drawing two walks. They grabbed the lead before an out was recorded and kept piling on, scoring seven more with two outs to surge ahead 11-3.

Mechanicsburg didn’t fold. Brianna Popovich led off the fourth with a solo homer, and the Lady Indians exploded in the fifth to claw right back into it. Avery McDowell reached and came around to score, Bella Batkiewicz added an RBI single, and a pair of errors loaded the bases.

Lexi Poland brought in a run on a groundout, Aubriee Retterer followed with an RBI single, and Harper Martin delivered the big swing with a two-RBI single. Martin later scored on a wild pitch, capping a huge inning that trimmed the deficit to 11-10.

The comeback continued in the sixth. A leadoff homer tied the game, and after three straight singles loaded the bases with two outs, Retterer drew a four-pitch walk to give Mechanicsburg a 12-11 lead.

But Greenon answered immediately in the seventh with an RBI single to tie it back up. Mechanicsburg worked out of further trouble with a key pickoff and a flyout to keep things even.

After the Lady Indians went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, the game moved to extras. Greenon took the lead in the eighth on a sacrifice fly, and despite Batkiewicz reaching on an error to open the bottom half, Mechanicsburg couldn’t bring her around.

The Lady Indians pounded out 12 hits and drew two walks, with six players recording multi-hit games. Martin and Retterer each had two hits and two RBIs, Dale added two hits and scored three times, and McDowell’s two-hit day was highlighted by her solo homer. Keelyn McGhee also contributed a pair of hits.

Mechanicsburg falls to 0-8 and will look to break through for its first win when it hosts Northeastern on Monday.

Greeneview 16, Triad 6 (6 innings)

Triad couldn’t keep up with a hot-hitting Greeneview squad, falling 16-6 in a run-rule defeat at home.

The two teams traded runs early, with Kaitlynn Herron tying the game in the first on a fly ball double to left. The Lady Cardinals threatened for more in the inning but couldn’t push another across—and that’s when Greeneview took control.

The Rams plated three in the second on a pair of RBI doubles, then added four more in the third behind two RBI singles and an outfield error to stretch the lead to 8-1.

Another Triad miscue in the fourth made it 9-1, and things unraveled further in the fifth. Walks loaded the bases with two outs, and a string of errors helped Greeneview tack on four more to make it 13-1.

Triad showed some fight in the bottom of the fifth to avoid the early run-rule. After loading the bases, Isabella Russell knocked in a run and Emma Martin followed with a bases-loaded walk. Herron added a sac fly, and a pair of Greeneview errors allowed two more runs to score, cutting the deficit to 13-6.

But the Rams responded right away. With two outs in the sixth, a double and more Cardinal miscues—including a wild pitch—pushed the lead to 16-6. Greeneview then sealed it with three straight strikeouts to end the game.

Herron led Triad with two hits, while Riley Haser and Russell added the other knocks.

Triad falls to 2-8 and will look to bounce back against Fairbanks on Monday.

Jonathan Alder 11, Graham 1 (5 innings)

Graham had chances early but couldn’t cash in, falling 11-1 in a run-rule loss to Jonathan Alder.

The Lady Falcons put runners on in the first and loaded the bases with one out in the second but came away empty, while the Pioneers capitalized on their opportunities.

Jonathan Alder got rolling in the first with an RBI single and a two-RBI triple, then added two more in the second on a bunt fielder’s choice to take a 5-0 lead.

The Pioneers kept building in the third with a pair of doubles that plated two more runs, and a bases-loaded walk plus a two-run double in the fourth stretched the lead to 10-0.

Graham finally broke through in the fifth when Brinlee Middleton delivered a two-out RBI single to center, but Jonathan Alder answered right back with a run of its own to trigger the run rule.

Charli Werner led the Falcons with a perfect 2-for-2 day, while Malynn Bacher, Middleton, and Elena Portis each added a hit.

Graham drops to 4-6 and will head to Benjamin Logan on Monday.
