History! Indian Lake beats North Union to advance to State Semifinal

Indian Lake rode a strong second half to a Regional Championship Friday night at Marysville beating North Union 35-21.

The Wildcats controlled the first half grinding the clock with the ground game. North Union grabbed the first score of the game the first play into the second quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.

The Lakers were able to mount their best drive of the half as time was winding down. They went 80 yards and hit pay dirt thanks to a Brady Golliday 17-yard run and tied the game 7-7 with just over a minute left in the first half.

Indian Lake forced a quick punt from North Union to start the third quarter. That’s when Noah Shirk and the the Indian Lake offensive line went to work. Shirk exploded in the second half for four touchdowns and finished with 187 yards rushing. The Lakers never punted in the second half. Shirk scored on runs of 20, 8, 3, and 3 yards.

North Union didn’t go away easy. They scored with 5:46 left to cut the lead to 28-21, but another Noah Shirk touchdown with 2:29 left ended the Wildcats season.

Indian Lake put together their best running attack of the season piling up 346 rushing yards.

The Lakers advance to the State Semifinal for the first time in school history. The DV semifinal will be Indian Lake (11-2) vs. Liberty Center (13-0) Friday night 11/28 at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.
