Saturday, several boys basketball teams battled hard and came out on top.
Riverside‘s varsity boys basketball team narrowly defeated Fairlawn 49-48 in a tense matchup, which was broadcast live on Peak of Ohio TV.
Jaxon Woods was the standout player for Riverside, scoring 21 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and recording a block.
Brody Orsborne added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Gavin Orsborne contributed 6 points and 3 steals.
Damien Smith also had a solid outing with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and a block.
Landon Purtee provided some clutch points and key defense down the stretch.
In the JV game, Riverside came away with a dominant 48-22 win.
Syler Clark led the way with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
David Gross contributed 9 points and 2 steals, while Colton Hurley added 4 points and 10 rebounds.
The West Liberty-Salem Tigers had a commanding 61-42 victory over Greeneview, with Isaiah Reames leading all scorers with 18 points.
Carson Poppe added 14 points, while Caleb Hershberger chipped in 10.
The Tigers continued their strong play in the JV and JVB games, with the JV squad winning 48-36 and the JVB team securing a 44-24 win.
In the JV game, Asher Cole had a standout performance with 16 points, while Josiah Johnson added 10 points.
The JVB team was led by Liam Barger, who scored 11 points, and Zeke Longshore, who added 9.
West Liberty-Salem play at Greenon on Tuesday.
Indian Lake’s varsity boys basketball team cruised to a 64-50 victory over St. Marys, thanks to stellar performances from Brodey Reisinger and Avery Pequignot.
Reisinger led the team with 24 points, while Pequignot added 18 points to help the Lakers secure the win.
However, the Indian Lake JV team fell short, losing to St. Marys 44-37.
Brady Golliday led the way for the Lakers with 15 points.
The Calvary Christian Spartans fell to the Minster Wildcats 55-48.
Senior Daniel Young was the leading scorer for Calvary Christian, contributing 13 points and hitting 4 of 5 from beyond the arc.
Young also recorded 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Zeeke Wylie, Evan Schmidt, and Christian Rogan each scored 9 points, with Wylie adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists, Schmidt grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists, and Rogan contributing 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
Philip Davie scored 8 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, and had 4 assists in the loss.
