Area track and field teams turned in strong early-season performances across multiple meets, highlighted by the Piqua Invitational on Friday and the Versailles Invitational on Saturday, along with middle school action Thursday in Mechanicsburg.

Indian Lake Posts Strong Finish at Piqua Invitational

Indian Lake delivered a solid showing at the Piqua Invitational, with the boys team finishing third with 90 points and the girls placing fifth with 64 points. Upper Arlington captured the team title, followed by Miami East.

Gavin Henry led the Lakers with a dominant performance in the hurdles, winning both the 110-meter hurdles (16.25) and 300-meter hurdles (41.32). Noah Shirk added a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (17.82) and third in the 300 hurdles (45.3).

In the field events, Christopher Timms won the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 6 inches and placed fourth in discus (126-8). Wyatt Whitsett added a seventh-place finish in shot put (40-2.5).

In the jumping events, Aidan Stinebaugh placed third in long jump (18-9) and also finished third in the 400-meter dash (52.17). Blake Sell cleared 5-8 to take sixth in high jump, while Will Faler was seventh in pole vault (10-0).

Relay teams also contributed to the scoring effort:

  • 4×400 relay (Stinebaugh, Kade Richardson, Silas Holbrook, Carson Clary) – 3rd (4:38)
  • 4×100 relay (Henry, Shirk, Richardson, Holbrook) – 4th (45.35)
  • 4×200 relay (Sell, Whitsett, JJ Shirk, Jordan Henderson) – 4th (1:40)
  • 4×800 relay (Stinebaugh, Faler, Clary, Cason Lacher) – 7th (9:16)

Additional performances included Nathan White finishing fifth in the 3200 (11:51), and Silas Holbrook placing seventh in the 100 (11.91) and eighth in the 200 (23.87).

On the girls side, Addison Beck turned in a standout performance, winning the high jump (5-0) while finishing second in the long jump (16-2.5), 100-meter dash (13.21), and 200-meter dash (27.27).

Laura Metzger placed third in the 3200 (13:45) and seventh in high jump (4-4), while Kayleigh Taylor was sixth in pole vault (6-0) and seventh in the 3200 (14:54).

Terra Beltz placed seventh in shot put (27-5) and eighth in discus (82-10), while Claire Tidwell finished eighth in shot put (25-11).

Indian Lake returns to action Tuesday at Waynesfield-Goshen for a quad meet against Waynesfield, Jackson Center, and Lima Perry.

Benjamin Logan Finishes Sixth at Piqua

The Benjamin Logan boys team placed sixth overall at the Piqua Invitational.

Roman Maxwell led the Raiders with a second-place finish in high jump (5-10) and seventh in long jump (18-5.5). Owen Stratton added a fifth-place finish in high jump (5-8), while Alex Hassel was fifth in long jump (18-6).

Cooper Buck finished second in the 300 hurdles (44.94) and sixth in the 110 hurdles (18.73).

West Liberty-Salem Girls Take Third at Versailles Invitational

At the Versailles Invitational Saturday, the West Liberty-Salem girls team finished third out of eight teams in the Black Division with 100 points.

The 4×100 relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Ella Albers, Gwenyth McCullough, and Chloe Griffith took first place (51.79), while Isla Leichte won the 3200 (13:10.66).
