Indian Lake holds off Anna; Urbana falls in OT

Indian Lake held off a furious rally by Anna Tuesday night in the DIII Sectional Semi-Final 52-49.

The Lakers took a 39-30 lead to the fourth quarter after they outscored the Rockets 18-9 in the third quarter.

Anna closed to within 1 point (50-49) with 12 seconds remaining.  The Rockets then fouled Indian Lake’s Avery Pequignot.  The freshman stepped to the free-throw line and nailed two shots with 11 seconds on the clock.

Anna brought the ball down the floor and got off two attempts to tie the game, but both shots missed and Indian Lake celebrated a hard-fought victory.

Caiden Nicol led the way with 21 points while Camdon Tuttle added 10.

Indian Lake will now face #1 seed Miami East Friday night as the Vikings beat Stivers 67-43.

In Division II action at Springfield High School, Urbana fell in overtime to Meadowdale 56-50.

It was a tight back-and-forth contest throughout the game.

The Lions would take a 17-13 lead after the first quarter, but Urbana would not quit. The Hillclimbers would battle throughout the second quarter, and find Rayvon Rogan in the middle of the lane for a go-ahead buzzer-beater to give Urbana a 26-25 lead at the break.

The second half started just as fast as the first half began and would find Meadowdale up two, 39-37 heading into the fourth stanza.

The Hillclimbers dug out of a late fourth-quarter deficit to grab a 1-point lead with under 20 seconds remaining.  Meadowdale attempted a game-winning shot with 5 seconds left that missed, but the shooter was fouled.  He then hit one of the two free throws to tie the game at 48 and send it to OT.

Meadowdale would survive the extra period and outscore Urbana 8-2.

The Hillclimbers were led by Will Donahoe with 15. Jonathan Hildebrand and Aiden Bradshaw each had 9, Rayvon Rogan and Drake Dixon pitched in 7 points each, and Landon Key finished with 3.

Urbana finishes the season (16-8).
