Indian Lake knocks off state-ranked Norwayne; BL falls to Triad – Saturday basketball results

Area basketball teams were in action over the weekend.

Varsity boys:

Indian Lake pulled off a big upset at the “Battle of Berkey” tournament held in Smithville Saturday.

The Lakers took down 14th-ranked (D3) Norwayne 68-67.

Camdon Tuttle

Indian Lake was down by as much as 11 in the second half.

In the final seconds, Caiden Nicol took it inside for a layup that left the Lakers up by 1.

Norwayne would miss the final half-court heave.

Nicol and Camdon Tuttle controlled the court with impressive shooting, while the rest of the team took smart shots, hustled, played great defense,

and fought hard for rebounds.

Nicol poured in 34, while Tuttle added 22.

Benjamin Logan lost to Triad 58-40.

Yale Scheiderer led the Raiders with 9 points.

Triad was paced by Kane Bailey with 30.

The Raiders fall to 0-18, while Triad improves to 5-13.

Benjamin Logan won the JV game 38-21.

Cayden Brown had 11 in the victory.

Riverside hosted the “Honor Our First Responders” game Saturday.

The Pirates defeated Houston 62-55 in overtime.

Warren Shockey tossed in 21 points with 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Myles Platfoot added 17 points and 2 steals, and Ayden Clary had 10 points and 6 boards.

Riverside won the JV game 52-38.

Gavin Robison tallied 11 points and 3 steals, Reese Jenkins recorded 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, Nate Copas had 4 points and 8 boards, and Damien Smith chipped in with 5 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Varsity girls:

Triad fell to Fairbanks 55-15.

Madi Cox and Abbey Overfield each had 4 points. Overfield recorded 2 steals. Ashlyn McCoy pulled down 5 rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals fall to 3-16 (2-12 OHC).

In the JV game, Triad lost 48-4.

Hannah Russell had 3 points and Olivia Hall added 4 rebounds in the effort.

Triad will hit the court again on Wednesday when they host West Jefferson for Senior Night. JV starts at 6:00 p.m.

Middle School:

The CBC Middle School girls’ basketball tournament kicked off over the weekend.

The Benjamin Logan 7th-grade team fell to Shawnee 29-17.

Bryleigh Burnside pitched in 6 points in the effort.

The 8th-grade Lady Raiders beat Tecumseh 37-16.

Kaylee Hays tossed in 9 points and Bonnie Brunson added 6.

Benjamin Logan’s 8th-grade girls will travel to London Monday to play in round 2. The game is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

Indian Lake’s 7th-grade girls topped Jonathan Alder 29-15.

Alivia Kinney paced the Lakers with 11 points, Rya Pequignot added 8 points, Ava Phillips and Chloe Borgerding each had 4 points, and Madison Davis tossed in 2 points.

Indian Lake will travel to play London in the 2nd round of the tournament Monday. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

In other MS action, the Riverside 7th-grade girls lost to Covington 15-13.

Kenzie Stotler had 6 points in the loss, Molly Carman chipped in with 4 points, and Chloe Purtee scored 3 points.

Riverside is now 10-5 (9-4 conference).

The 8th-grade Lady Pirates also fell to Covington 45-25.

Kenna Johnson led with 15 points, Emilee Robinson had 9 points, and Keira Manahan scored one point.

Riverside falls to 11-4 (9-4 conference).

Benjamin Logan’s 7th-grade boys fell to Riverside 26-23.

Caden Powell and Maddox Vermillion paced the Raiders with 7 points each.
