The local boys’ golf season continued Tuesday with West Liberty-Salem and Mechanicsburg taking part in matches.
West Liberty-Salem
West Liberty-Salem battled Greeneview at Jasper Hills Golf Course in a nine-hole match.
The Tigers fell 192-183, with Greeneview taking the nine-stroke victory. The back nine was played with a par of 37.
Brayden Thompson led West Liberty-Salem with a 45, followed by Eli Jackson with a 47. Calen Fairchild shot a 49, while Braxton Catron finished with a 51.
The Tigers were within striking distance but struggled on several holes, which ultimately proved costly in the nine-stroke loss.
West Liberty-Salem will have a chance to bounce back Thursday, August 20, when the Tigers face Cedarville at Woodland Golf Course. Tee time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Mechanicsburg Indians
The Mechanicsburg Indians competed in the Bishop Watterson Eagle Classic, finishing 12th out of 15 teams with a combined score of 383.
Max Popovich led the Indians with an 89, followed by Mason Bandy with a 93. MJ Blose carded a 95, while Ryder Buxton finished with a 106.
Elliott Moore rounded out the Mechanicsburg lineup with a 112.
The Indians called the tournament a learning experience, saying the team now knows what it needs to improve on heading into a big week of golf.
Mechanicsburg finished 12th in the 15-team field and will look to build on the experience in its upcoming matches.
