The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade girls basketball team remains undefeated with a 26-17 win over Northeastern. Lilly Yeater contributed 2 points, Avery Randall and Rylee Falloon each scored 5, Elin Liechty added 6, and Bella Johnson led the team with 8 points. The Lady Tigers will travel to Mechanicsburg for a 7th grade-only game on Thursday, December 12, at 5:30 p.m.
In 8th-grade girls action, WL-S lost a close game to Northeastern, 22-20, bringing their record to 2-2. They will host Catholic Central on Monday, December 16, with the game starting at 5:30 p.m.
The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade boys team defeated Northeastern 36-26. Brandel Sullivan led with 14 points, followed by Tyler Hershberger with 8 points. Isaiah Barth added 5 points, and several other players contributed to the win.
The 8th grade Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs came from behind to defeat Springfield Shawnee 37-22. Mia Brown led the team with 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Lexey Brown added 8 points and 5 rebounds. Paxton Stewart also contributed 6 points and 5 steals. The Chiefs will host North Union on Thursday.
The 7th grade Lady Chiefs also triumphed over Shawnee, winning 20-16 in a hard-fought battle. Despite Shawnee’s comeback in the 4th quarter, Bellefontaine held on with strong defense and key free throws from Brookelyn Oaks and Kennedy Hairston. The 7th grade team improved to 3-2 and will host North Union on Thursday.
In other action, the Bellefontaine 7th grade boys defeated Shawnee 34-30, with Rowen Daring leading the way with 10 points. Raiden Alinson’s two key baskets in the 4th quarter helped seal the win. The 8th-grade boys also won, beating Shawnee 29-27, with Tyrin Johnson scoring 9 points and Mason Phillips adding 8 points. Matt Dearwester contributed 8 rebounds to aid in the victory.
At Indian Lake, the 7th-grade girls lost to Kenton Ridge 17-14. Addison Headings scored 8 points, Abby Bihn had 4, and Samantha Altstaetter added 2 points. The 8th grade girls also fell to Kenton Ridge, 28-15. Kyler Carruthers led with 5 points, while Laura Metzger and Claire Tidwell scored 4 points each, and Makayle Clary contributed 2 points.
The 7th grade Indian Lake boys basketball team suffered their first loss of the season last night on the road at Kenton Ridge. The Lakers took a 17-9 lead into halftime, but couldn’t hold on as they fell 33-25. Miller Hall led the way with 13 points. Mason Berg added 6 points, while Fletcher Brown and Colt Volbrecht each contributed 3 points of their own. Defensively, Kaiden Lacher shined, tallying multiple steals on the night. The basketball teams will play host to the Graham Falcons on Wednesday evening starting at 5:30.
In Riverside, the 7th grade girls lost a close game to Sidney Lehman, 27-23. Morgan Klingelhofer led Riverside with 11 points, while Lilly Haynes, Havannah McClintick, and Bella Robinson added points to the effort.
The Benjamin Logan 7th-grade basketball team faced a tough challenge against London, losing 65-13. Luke Long and Nevada Coleman were the top scorers for the Raiders, each contributing 4 points. Gavin Vermillion added 3 points, while Zayden Wilson scored 2 points. Despite the loss, the Raiders showed determination and teamwork throughout the game. In a much closer and more exciting game, the Benjamin Logan 8th-grade team pulled off a thrilling 34-32 win against London. The game was tied at 32 with just 2.7 seconds remaining when Colton Little passed the ball to Carrick Spriggs, who made the game-winning shot at the buzzer. Gabe Predmore led the Raiders with 13 points and 5 rebounds, while Micah Gregg added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Spriggs finished with 5 points and 3 steals, Brantley Karn contributed 3 points, and Little rounded out the scoring with 3 points of his own. The dramatic finish made for an unforgettable victory for the Raiders.
Lastly, the Calvary Christian Spartans junior high girls team fell to St. Johns Lutheran, 19-13. Caroline Moore led with 6 points, with Karis Willets, Eden LeCrone, and Destiney Mathys each contributing 2 points, and Madelyn Carter adding 1 point.
