Kuntz sets school mark, girls’ relay team honored as Chiefs place 5th at CBC swim championships

The Chieftain swim teams delivered an impressive performance at the CBC Championships, with both the boys and girls squads finishing fifth out of 12 teams, solidly placing in the top half of the league.

It was a standout day in the pool for Bellefontaine, highlighted by numerous personal-best times, strong team scoring, medal finishes, and record-breaking swims. The Chieftains outperformed their projected heat sheet positions, showcasing depth, effort, and team-first racing throughout the meet.

Brooklyne Kuntz led the way with an outstanding championship performance. Kuntz earned First Team All-CBC honors after winning the 100 butterfly, setting both a school and meet record with a time of 59.84 seconds. She also claimed Second Team All-CBC honors in the 200 IM, breaking the school record with a time of 2:15.13.

The girls 200 freestyle relay team of Kaeleigh Flora, Gillian Steele, Maddie Ullom, and Kuntz earned Honorable Mention All-CBC recognition with a strong showing. Flora and Cody Hudson were also recognized with CBC Sportsmanship Awards for their leadership and sportsmanship.

In team scoring, Kuntz paced the Chieftains with 29 points, followed by Kaeleigh Flora with 15 points. Ella Fultz and Maddie Ullom each contributed nine points on the girls side. For the boys, Will Myers led with 15 points, while Grady Feasel added 11. Landon Cook and Oliver Grandstaff each chipped in seven points.

The meet also featured an impressive wave of personal records, with 30 PRs recorded across 42 swims. Notable time drops included Clara Core cutting 12.60 seconds in the 500 freestyle, Emma Merrin dropping 7.66 seconds in the 100 butterfly, and Ella Fultz lowering her 200 freestyle time by 5.38 seconds. On the boys side, Oliver Grandstaff shaved 21.90 seconds off his 500 freestyle, Landon Cook dropped 8.91 seconds in the 100 backstroke, and Andrew Myers posted significant improvements in both the 200 IM (–4.33) and 500 freestyle (–4.75).

Overall, seven boys and nine girls scored points for the Chieftains, underscoring the team’s depth and commitment at one of the league’s most competitive meets.

CBC Championships once again proved to be a meet where Bellefontaine athletes rose to the occasion, racing not just for individual success but for their team. The coaching staff expressed pride in the Chieftains’ effort, improvement, and unity as the postseason continues.
