Lady Chiefs fall at home; JC takes Quest Cup; WL-S starts season with shutout win; Youth Soccer scores

Multiple soccer teams competed over the weekend.

High School:

The Bellefontaine varsity girls team lost to Kenton Saturday evening 7-2.

The Lady Chiefs scored first in the opening half, but Kenton matched it minutes later.

The game was tied 1-1 and then the Wildcat’s offense took over with 5 unanswered goals until Bellefontaine scored again late in the 2nd half.

Parker Penhorwood scored both goals for the Lady Chiefs.

Bellefontaine is now 1-1 on the young season.

The Lady Chiefs take the field again on Thursday when they travel to take on Coldwater.

The Jackson Center boys team defeated Benjamin Logan 3-0, winning the Quest Cup Saturday night.

After a 0-0 first half, the Tigers were able to convert on 3 set plays in the second half to come away with the victory.

On the all-tournament team for the Raiders were Aidan Todd, Jacob Roth, and Jonas Hoffman.

Making it for Jackson Center were Camdyn Reese, Trevor Huber, Xavier Lowe, and Lucas Heitkamp.

Benjamin Logan is now 1-1.

The Raiders host Fairbanks Wednesday.

The West Liberty-Salem boys varsity team opened the season with a 3-0 shutout win at home against Lehman Catholic.

The Tigers led 1-0 at the half and two second-half goals put the game away.

Matthew Christison, Jackson Steider, and Lance Campbell all scored one goal apiece for the WL-S.

Andrew Kimball and DJ Yoder each had one assist.

The Tiger defense played well in recording the shutout. Carter Titus had 1 save in goal.

WL-S travel to Greeneview Thursday.

Youth Soccer:

Huntsville U13 shut out North Logan #2 Saturday 8-0.

Leading the way was Kirk Beres with 4 goals, Addison Headings and Reese Imm each added 2 goals as well.

Strong team defense and goalkeeping by Kaiden Lacher helped secure the shutout against North Logan.

U11 Calvary #1 defeated Calvary #3 by a score of 7-0.

Calvary #1 had 4 different players score: Graham Buchenroth netted 3 goals, Charis Kariuki, Luke Cronkleton, Eli Keller, and Myra Varner all added 1 goal each.

Violet James, Lucas Zell, and Reed Comer all played excellent defense for Calvary 1.

Klay Gantz and Grayson Stout combined for the shutout in goal.

U11 Huntsville United defeated Quincy by a score of 9-0.

Leading the offense for Huntsville United were Ross Tidwell with a hat trick, Adeline Shulz and Bennett Shaner had 2 goals each. Emry Warnecke and Tyler Ferguson each added a goal.

Xandar Jenkins, Caroline Jones, and Ross Tidwell were in the goal for the shutout.

U8 Calvary #3 tied Lakeview #2 4-4.

Isaiah Rolfes led Calvary with two goals. Jameson Morrison and Elliot Rogers each added a goal.

For Lakeview, Brendan Shoffner had a hat trick and Harper Miller scored the other goal.

U7 Huntsville #2 defeated Calvary #2 5-1 on Saturday.

Kamden Lacher and Krew Klofta each scored two goals and Jagger Harpst added a goal as time expired.

Lincoln Conley scored the lone goal for Calvary.

In U6 soccer action, Lakeview #1 defeated Calvary #1 5-3.

Owen Gast scored two goals and Wyatt Hatfield netted one for Calvary.

U6 Calvary #2 defeated Huntsville #1 8-1.

Reid Morrison led the way for Calvary with 7 goals and Cyrus Fraber added a goal.

Scoring for Huntsville was Ben Harvey.
