Lady Pirates and Tigers lose conference games; Chieftain 8th-grade girls to play for CBC title

Area basketball teams were in action Thursday.

Varsity Girls

Riverside lost to Milton-Union 53-35.

The Lady Pirates fall to 5-16 (2-12 TRC).

West Liberty-Salem fell to Mechanicsburg 61-45.

Megan Hollar led the Lady Tigers with 17, Lilly Weaver added 11, Chaley Wade scored 6, Ava Astroino tallied 5, and Bailey Poppe and Maddie Cole each had 3 points apiece.

Oliva Skillings poured in 20 for the Burg. Addie DeLong chipped in with 18, Dani Schipfer scored 13 and Emily Conley added 10.

West Liberty-Salem falls to 12-9 (10-5 OHC), while Mechanicsburg improves to 17-3 (14-1 OHC).

The Lady Tigers won the JV game 32-19.

Laila Butler had 12 in the win.

Middle School:

The Bellefontaine 7th-grade girls lost to North Union in the semi-finals of the CBC Tournament, 21-16.

Amari Hunsicker scored 5 in the effort. Ava Oppy added 4 points and Sloan Stolly, Joy Fogan and Tabby Thomas combined for 8 points on the night.

The 7th-grade Lady Chiefs finish the season 12-6.

Bellefontaine’s 8th-grade girls beat Shawnee 37-14.

Presley Vigansky netted 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks, Hailee Lamb had 8 points and 4 steals, Grace Brown and Sophia Jacobs each scored 5 points, Emma Whitaker chipped in with 4 points and 5 rebounds, Hannah Wilson added 2 points and Paige Smith scored a point and collected 10 boards.

Alivia Wage gave good minutes on the court.

The 8th-grade Lady Chiefs will play London in the CBC Championship game Saturday morning at Tecumseh. The tip-off is scheduled for 11:30.

Benjamin Logan’s 7th-grade boys defeated Upper Scioto Valley 35-13.

Caden Powell and Maddox Vermillion each had 10 in the victory.

The 7th-grade Raiders will hit the court again Monday in the second round of the CBC Tournament. Benjamin Logan will host the winner of Tecumseh/Northwestern at 5:30 on Monday.

In the 8th-grade game, Benjamin Logan lost 48-34.

Alex Hassel had 23 points.

The 8th-grade Raiders will travel to London Saturday for the opening round of the CBC Tournament. Game time is slated for 10 a.m.

Riverside’s 7th-grade boys edged past Milton-Union 37-35.

Brody Osborne had 15 in the win while Justin Mazariegos added 6 points.

The Pirate 8th-grade boys lost 57-26.

Sylar Clark had 11 in the loss.

The Urbana 7th-grade boys beat Northridge 50-29.

Crew Forson and Case Teepe each had 14 points.

The Hillclimbers won the 8th-grade game 60-51.

Grady Lantz poured in 26 and Kaden Underwood chipped in with 18.

West Liberty-Salem’s 7th-grade girls ran past Mechanicsburg 36-12.

Addi Wallen had 22 for the Tigers.

Also scoring for WL-S was Arianna Weaver with 9, Ellery Wygal had 3, and Isla Leichty netted 2.

West Liberty-Salem will play in the OHC Championship game Saturday against Fairbanks at noon.

The Tiger 7th-grade boys handled West Jefferson 40-22.

Zade Beileski led the charge with 12 points, Beckett Sullivan and Asher Cole each had 7, Brayan Gullett and Owen Hardwick both scored 4 points, Austin Markin tallied 3 points, Zeke Longshore chipped in with 2, and Reagan McCullough had 1 point.

West Liberty-Salem improves to 16-0.
