Lady Pirates fall in road test at Miami East; Thursday basketball scores

Area girls basketball teams were in action Thursday night, with Riverside and Triad facing tough road losses, while Bellefontaine’s middle school teams closed the regular season and prepared for tournament play.

VARSITY GIRLS — Miami East 64, Riverside 26

The Riverside Lady Pirates dropped a road contest to Miami East on Thursday night, falling 64–26.

Miami East pulled ahead early and extended the lead throughout the night, leading 17–15 after the first quarter and 35–18 at halftime. The Vikings continued to build separation in the second half, taking a 55–24 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Kenzie Stotler led Riverside with 12 points in the loss.

Riverside falls to 4–15 on the season.

VARSITY GIRLS — Madison Plains 80, Triad 7

Triad suffered a loss on the road Thursday evening, falling 80–7 to Madison Plains.

Emma Martin paced the Cardinals with five points, while April Hillman contributed five rebounds.

Triad’s varsity record now stands at 0–15 in the OHC and 0–20 overall.

7TH GRADE GIRLS — Sidney Lehman 28, Riverside 26

The Riverside 7th-grade girls dropped a heartbreaker Thursday night, falling 28–26 to Sidney Lehman.

Erica Blair led Riverside with eight points, while Brylee Shepherd added seven. Kinsley Crawford scored three points, and Avery Wheeler, Bella Shultz, Lilly Hanes, and Bella Robinson each finished with two points in the close loss.

8TH GRADE GIRLS — Sidney Lehman 38, Riverside 17

Riverside’s 8th-grade girls were unable to keep pace with Sidney Lehman, falling 38–17.

Bella Robinson led Riverside with seven points, followed by Lilly Hanes with six. Havannah McClintick and Alexis Skaggs each scored two points.

8TH GRADE GIRLS — Ben Logan 34, Bellefontaine 16

The Bellefontaine 8th-grade Lady Chiefs closed out the regular season Thursday night with a 34–16 loss to Ben Logan.

Despite the setback, Bellefontaine showed continued effort while facing the No. 1 and No. 2 tournament seeds on back-to-back nights. The stretch provided valuable experience as the Lady Chiefs prepare for postseason play.

Bellefontaine will return to action Saturday morning in the first round of the CBC Tournament, hosting Graham at 10:00 a.m. in the BMS gym.

7TH GRADE GIRLS — Bellefontaine 49, Ben Logan 2

The Bellefontaine 7th-grade Lady Chiefs earned a decisive 49–2 victory over Ben Logan on Thursday, improving to 12–3 on the season.

Mia Regula led the way with 12 points, while Charley Frazier added eight. Leah Harvey, Myra Varner, and Alivia Rogan each scored six points in the win.

7TH GRADE GIRLS — West Liberty-Salem 14, Fairbanks 11

West Liberty-Salem’s 7th-grade girls played a two-quarter contest on the road Thursday night and earned a 14–11 win over Fairbanks, closing the regular season with a 9–3 record.

Zoey Richardson led the Tigers with six points, followed by Izzy Jones with five. Iris Meister added two points, and Chloe Staten chipped in one.

West Liberty-Salem will open OHC tournament play at home against Madison Plains on Monday, February 2, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

8TH GRADE GIRLS — West Liberty-Salem 40, Fairbanks 7

The West Liberty-Salem 8th-grade girls wrapped up the regular season in dominant fashion, defeating Fairbanks 40–7.

Avery Randall led the Tigers with 11 points, while Rylee Falloon and Bella Johnson each scored nine. Lilly Yeater added eight points, and Elin Leichty and Emily Leas rounded out the scoring.

West Liberty-Salem will open tournament play at home on February 4, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
