Lady Raiders sweep doubleheader against Versailles; Saturday softball recap

Benjamin Logan 4, Versailles 3 (DH Game 1)

Benjamin Logan edged Versailles 4-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader, using early offense and a clutch late break to secure the win.

The Lady Raiders struck first in the opening inning. Brielle Kline worked a one-out walk and Rylan Norviel followed with a double to left, putting two in scoring position. Adilynne Gregg capitalized, driving a ground ball back up the middle for a two-run double to give Benjamin Logan a quick lead.

They added to it in the second. Naveah Fogle came around to score on a sacrifice groundout from Kylie Harner, stretching the advantage to 3-0 after two innings.

Versailles battled back in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs before an infield error brought home two runs. A single to center in the next at-bat tied the game at 3-3.

Benjamin Logan answered in the fifth with two outs. Tanna Jacobs reached on a throwing error, allowing Kline to score what proved to be the game-winning run.

Gregg took care of the rest in the circle, working out of a jam in the fifth and finishing the complete game. She struck out six and didn’t allow another serious scoring threat. At the plate, Gregg also led the way, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Benjamin Logan 11, Versailles 9 (DH Game 2)

Benjamin Logan completed the doubleheader sweep with an 11-9 win in a back-and-forth offensive battle.

Versailles jumped ahead in the second inning, using a leadoff double, a single, and an RBI groundout to take a 2-0 lead.

The Raiders responded in a big way in the third with a two-out rally. After two quick outs, Rylan Norviel sparked the offense with an RBI single. An error allowed another run to score, and Tanna Jacobs followed with a go-ahead double. Jaylyn Parker added to the surge with a two-RBI double, giving Benjamin Logan a 5-2 lead.

The Lady Tigers answered right back, tying the game with a string of hits before reclaiming the lead on an RBI groundout. A solo homer in the fourth extended the advantage to 7-5.

Benjamin Logan chipped away in the fifth on a Parker RBI single, then took control in the sixth. Kylie Harner and Kline singled to set the table, and Norviel reached on an error that tied the game. Jacobs delivered the biggest hit of the inning, lining a bases-clearing single to give the Raiders a 9-7 lead.

Insurance came in the seventh as Harner doubled and Kline singled to help push the lead to 11-7.

Versailles made one last push, loading the bases with three straight singles and scoring twice, but Gregg shut the door by retiring the next three batters to earn her second win of the day.

Every Raider recorded a hit, with Jacobs leading the way at 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Harner also had three hits, and Parker drove in three runs.

Riverside 6, Triad 1

Riverside used a fast start and dominant pitching to defeat Triad 6-1.

The Lady Pirates wasted no time in the first inning. Keira Manahan drew a walk and Chloe Purtee singled to set the stage for Emilee Robinson, who blasted a three-run homer to left. Later in the inning, an error allowed another run to score, making it 4-0 early.

Riverside added on in the fifth with an RBI groundout from Miah Carman and again in the sixth on an RBI single by Purtee to extend the lead.

Manahan controlled the game from the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run. She struck out nine, including the side in the first inning.

Triad’s lone run came in the seventh on a solo home run from Rachel Haser.

Manahan and Purtee each collected two hits offensively, while Robinson’s three-run homer led the scoring.

Graham 21, Bethel 6 (5 innings)

Graham erupted offensively in a 21-6 run-rule win over Bethel, scoring in every inning and piling up hits throughout.

The Lady Falcons opened with four runs in the first on RBI singles from Lexi Baker, Sophia Fraley, Brinlee Middleton, and Charli Werner. Bethel responded with three runs, including a two-run homer, but Graham quickly answered.

They added three more in the second, highlighted by additional RBI hits from Fraley and Werner, then broke things open in the third with a five-run, two-out rally. Middleton’s double pushed the Falcons into double digits, and more runs followed on an error and a base hit.

Malynn Bacher powered the offense late, launching a two-run homer in the fourth before delivering a grand slam in the fifth as part of a massive inning that pushed the total past 20 runs.

Every Graham starter recorded a hit. Bacher led the way with two home runs and six RBIs, while Fraley, Werner, and Baker each tallied three hits.

River Valley 12, Bellefontaine 7

Bellefontaine built an early lead but couldn’t hold off River Valley, falling 12-7 after a late surge by the Vikings.

The Lady Chieftains struck first with a one-out RBI triple from Joy Fogan in the opening inning. After River Valley tied it in the second, Bellefontaine answered with three runs, including an RBI single from Alayna Boyd and a two-run double by Addison Wycal to take a 4-1 lead.

Chloe Heminger added a solo homer in the third, and Fogan later delivered a two-run shot in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-4.

River Valley began to chip away, cutting the deficit in the fourth and then tying the game in the fifth with a two-out hit that brought in multiple runs.

The momentum fully shifted in the sixth when the Vikings launched a three-run homer to take the lead as part of a six-run inning. Bellefontaine’s offense stalled from there, unable to respond late.

Wycal led the Chiefs with a 3-for-3 performance, while Fogan added two hits, a home run, and three RBIs.

Newton 13, West Liberty-Salem 9

West Liberty-Salem saw a late lead slip away in a 13-9 loss to Newton after a big sixth inning from the Indians.

The Lady Tigers got on the board in the second with RBI singles from Kaylee Blair and Emily King. Newton answered with a five-run, two-out rally, highlighted by a bases-clearing double, to take the lead.

After falling behind further in the third, West Liberty-Salem responded with a huge fourth inning. Emily King, Kiersten Stoll, and Karlee Lucas each delivered RBI singles, and Olivia Reichardt added a run-scoring double as part of a six-run frame that gave the Tigers a 9-6 lead.

Newton chipped away in the fifth before erupting in the sixth. A two-out homer tied the game, and the Indians followed with a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a two-RBI single to take control.

West Liberty-Salem couldn’t answer in the seventh as Newton closed out the win.

King led the Tigers offensively, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Lucas and Reichardt each added two hits.
