Lady Tigers and Pirates fall in basketball showdowns

In high school girls’ basketball action, West Jefferson claimed a 51-35 victory over West Liberty-Salem on Thursday.

Leading the charge for the Tigers was Ava Astorino, who scored 13 points, followed by Addi Wallen with 8.

Ava Johnson netted 3 points, Maddie McGill added 5, Arianna Weaver had 2, and Ava Poppe scored 4 points.

In the JV match, West Liberty-Salem defeated West Jefferson 32-10.

Lucy Cole was the standout performer for WL-S, scoring 13 points in the win.

At Riverside, the Lady Pirates’ JV team lost to Miami East 16-8, while the varsity team also fell to Miami East 49-25 in league play.

Avery Perk led Riverside’s varsity squad with 11 points, and Maddie Lemly contributed 6 points.

With the loss, Riverside’s varsity team’s record now stands at 4-14 on the season.
