A full slate of area girls’ basketball action took place Thursday night, with West Liberty-Salem, Bellefontaine, and Riverside all in action. From close road victories to tough losses, local teams were busy as the regular season winds down.
West Liberty-Salem 51, Anna 44
The West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers pulled out a 51–44 win over visiting Anna. Ava Astorino led the team with 17 points, while Addi Wallen added 11 and Ava Poppe contributed 10. Arianna Weaver scored nine points, and Ellery Wygal and Lucy Cole each added two. West Liberty-Salem improves to 17–2 on the season.
JV — Anna 43, West Liberty-Salem 19
Grace Jones led the West Liberty-Salem JV team with 11 points.
Bellefontaine 54, Jonathan Alder 41
The Lady Chieftains earned a 54–41 road win over Jonathan Alder. Bellefontaine pulled away late in the third quarter behind strong defense and key scoring. Grace Brown led all scorers with 18 points, going 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and grabbing seven rebounds. Hailee Lamb added 15 points, while Sloan Stolly chipped in seven. Bellefontaine improves to 3-17.
JV — Bellefontaine 33, Jonathan Alder 18
Lexey Brown led the JV Lady Chieftains with 10 points.
Covington 61, Riverside 38
The Riverside Lady Pirates fell 38–61 to Covington. The teams were tied 10–10 after the first quarter, and Riverside held a 26–24 halftime lead. Covington outscored Riverside 23–10 in the third quarter to take control. Maddie Lemly led Riverside with 13 points, followed by Kenna Johnson with nine. Riverside falls to 4–16 on the season.
