Lady Tigers off to strong start at district prelims

The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team competed Tuesday evening in Day 1 of the Division III District Preliminaries at Graham High School.

The Tigers turned in several strong performances, including a top-four relay finish that punched a ticket to regionals, and qualified athletes in numerous events for Saturday’s finals.

Scorers for West Liberty-Salem:

  • 4th Place – 4×800 Meter Relay: The team of Gwen McCullough, Isla Leichty, Mariska Smith, and Arianna Weaver finished fourth, securing a regional qualification with a strong showing.
  • 7th Place – High Jump: Arianna Weaver cleared 4 feet, 8 inches, earning a 7th-place finish and contributing two points to the team’s total.

Advancing to Finals on Saturday:

  • 100-Meter Hurdles: Hattie Jacobs – 16.79 seconds
  • 100-Meter Dash: Chloe Griffith – 13.06 seconds
  • 4×200-Meter Relay: Tori Douthwaite, Gwen McCullough, Hattie Jacobs, and Chloe Griffith – 1:52.32
  • 4×100-Meter Relay: Tori Douthwaite, Hattie Jacobs, Ella Albers, and Chloe Griffith – 52.57
  • 200-Meter Dash: Chloe Griffith – 27.03; Tori Douthwaite – 27.85
  • 300-Meter Hurdles: Hattie Jacobs – 50.20
  • 4×400-Meter Relay: Arianna Weaver, Gwen McCullough, Ryrie Matthews, and Mariska Smith – 4:35.45
