Lakers KO Knights; Tournament basketball finals


Indian Lake pulled away from Greenon in the second half Tuesday night in the opening round of the Division III boys tournament from Butler High School.

The Lakers led at halftime 27-20 but came out firing in the third quarter and pushed their lead to twelve by the end of the third quarter en route to a 64-45 victory.

Caiden Nicol had 25 for the Lakers.

During the game, Nicol became Indian Lake’s all-time leading scorer surpassing Jenna Smith.

Avery Pequignot chipped in with 19 points (15 in the second half).

Brodey Reisinger finished with 9.

The Lakers shot 12-17 from the free-throw line.

Greenon was led by Grady Bowman with 17 points and Isaiah Kowalski had 10.

Indian Lake is now (18-5) on the season and will take on Middletown Madison Tuesday night February 27, at 6:00  from Vandalia.


In other boy’s tournament action…

Northridge eliminated Graham 56-38.

Urbana took a late lead and beat Eaton 43-41.

Will Donahoe scored 21 for the Hillclimbers (17 in the 2nd half).


In girl’s tournament basketball…

West Liberty-Salem beat Greenon 42-28.

Leading the Tigers were:

  • Bailey Poppe, 15 points
  • Chaley Wade, 11 points
  • Megan Hollar, 9 points
  • Ava Astorino, 7 points

The Tigers will face Miami East on Friday night.


Bellefontaine upset Meadowdale 42-40.

The Chiefs will now play Thurgood Marshall Tuesday night February 27, at Tecumseh High School.
