Lakers Sink Northwestern; West Liberty Over Triad

Mad River Division-leading Indian Lake beat down the Warriors of Northwestern Friday night at Indian Lake High School, 80-72.

The Lakers were led by the dynamic duo of Junior guard Avery Pequignot and Sophmore guard Brodey Reisinger, each scoring 15 points in the first half, putting the Lakers up 39-35 at the break.

In the second half, Northwestern came out strong with a full press defense on the Lakers, but Indian Lake found an answer for that, according to Coach Zach Overturf.

In the end, it was Reisinger with 33 points, and Pequignot with 22 for the Lakers.

Sophomore forward Crew Estep led Northwestern with 30 points from the paint.

Indian Lake improves to 10-6 overall. Northwestern falls to 4-12. Indian Lake returns to the court on Saturday against Urbana. The tip-off is at 7:30.

 

In West Liberty, the Tiger Varsity team improved to 10-8 overall with a strong win against Triad, 69-32.

Senior guard Isaiah Reames led the Tiger with 27. Sophomore guard Sutton Wilcoxon added 16.

West Liberty-Salem JV team, led by Asher Cole’s 12-point performance, defeated Triad 54-22.

The Riverside Pirates found themselves down after Miami East hit a three-point with less than six seconds left to go, but that didn’t stop the Pirates.

Landon Purtee found Gavin Osborne in the corner who put up a three and hit the buzzer-beater, giving the Pirates the lead and the upset, 44-42.

Senior Jaxon Woods led the Pirates with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 assists. Freshman Brody Orsborne added 10 points and a huge steal.

Riverside’s freshman lost 31-26. Laithen Synder scored 12 points to lead the Pirates.

The Riverside JV team lost to Miami East’s JV team, 53-45.

Colton Hurley led the Pirates with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal.

The Bellefontaine Chieftains traveled to Tecumseh Friday night for a CBC matchup and came away with a hard-fought 59-55 win.

The Chieftains improve to 9-8 on the season and Tecumseh falls to 7-10.

For the Chiefs, Braylon Newcomb scored 23 points and Jair Mundy scored 20 points.

CJ Butler added 9 points for the winning Chiefs. Tecumseh’s Chase Stafford was the game-high scorer with 29 points.

In the JV contest, Bellefontaine lost 55-47. Sutton Daring had 16 points and Spencer Stolly added 11 points to lead the Chiefs.

In the Freshmen game, Bellefontaine lost 45-31 to the Arrows.

Tyler Rossey scored 11 points for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Vandalia-Butler to take on the Aviators in a non-league matchup.
