Local girls basketball teams compete in exciting weekend action

Several local girls basketball teams took to the court this weekend in a series of thrilling matchups.

 

The Riverside Lady Pirates saw both their JV and varsity squads in action on Saturday, with mixed results.

The junior varsity squad delivered a dominant performance, defeating Hardin Northern 16-6 in just two quarters.

Molly Carman and Chloe Purtee led the charge, each scoring 5 points to lead the team.

In a hard-fought game, the Riverside varsity squad lost to Hardin Northern in overtime 53-44.

Miah Carman led the Lady Pirates with 16 points, while Avery Perk added 11 points.

 

Kennedy Schwaderer scored 15 points with 6 rebounds and 3 steals, but the Lady Lakers fell 50-44 to Northwestern.

Courtney Altstaetter added 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Carly Strayer chipped in 8 points.

The JV squad also dropped a close game, losing 32-27.

Madison Davis led the way with 10 points, and Brylee Buyer contributed 8 points.

 

Triad’s varsity squad couldn’t overcome the strong play of West Jefferson, suffering a 62-25 loss.

Gracie Martin led the Cardinals with 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Abbey Overfield had 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Jazz Ford also added 6 points and 5 rebounds.

Ben Logan Lady Raiders were overwhelmed in a 55-19 loss to North Union.

Adilynne Gregg led Ben Logan with 7 points, while Daylin Varner and Kaylee Hays added 5 and 3 points, respectively.

The JV team fell short in a 38-36 defeat.

.Madison Shields scored a career-high 19 points to lead the team, with Bonnie Brunson adding 7 points and Bryleigh Burnside chipping in 6 points.

 

West Liberty-Salem pulled out a dramatic 48-45 overtime win over Fairbanks on Saturday.

Addi Wallen was the star of the game, scoring 17 points to lead the Tigers to victory.

Ava Astorino also had a standout performance, scoring 15 points.

In a tightly contested game, West Liberty-Salem made clutch plays in the overtime period to secure the win.

The JV squad cruised to a 28-16 victory, with Isla Leichty leading the way with 9 points.

 

The Lady Chieftains traveled to Tecumseh and secured an impressive victory, 71-63.

Quinlan Zedeker led the way with a game-high 28 points, while Tiffany Boop added 17 points and 4 rebounds.

Laila Butler contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds.

The JV team also won, defeating Tecumseh 37-26.

Hailee Lamb and Joy Fogan each scored 8 points, with Fogan pulling down 11 rebounds to lead the team.
