Local volleyball roundup: WL-S, Calvary Christian earn sweeps; Chiefs honor seniors

The West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers volleyball team traveled to Mechanicsburg Lady Indians for an Ohio Heritage Conference matchup and came away with a straight-set win: 25-16, 25-17, 25-17.

The first set saw some early jitters on both sides, but the Lady Indians started to take control after holding a 15-11 lead. The Tigers called timeout, and it proved to be worthy as they closed the set on a 14-1 run.

The final two sets were controlled by West Liberty-Salem the entire way through. The ‘Burg provided some entertaining moments, but struggled to get their offense in a consistent flow.

The Tigers were outstanding from the service line, tallying a team 16 aces.

Stat leaders for the Indians:

The Tigers improve to 18-3 overall and 14-1 in OHC play, and will travel to West Jefferson on Thursday to close out regular season conference action.

The Indians fall to 7-12, 4-10 in the OHC, and will close the regular season with two road contest against Triad on Thursday and Delaware Christian on Saturday.

In JV play, WLS fell to Mechanicsburg in two sets, 23-25 and 16-25.

The Bellefontaine volleyball team recognized seniors Kaeileigh Flora, Kelsie Snapp, and Madi Zedeker before their home match against Kenton Ridge, celebrating years of leadership and dedication to the program.

Despite a strong start, the Chiefs fell to the Cougars in four sets: 15-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13.

In JV Red action, Bellefontaine swept Kenton Ridge 25-22, 25-19 behind standout play from Rosie Lightle (21 assists, 13/13 serving, 2 aces) and Brooklyne Kuntz (6 kills, 9 digs, perfect serving).

The Chiefs travel to London on Thursday for their next conference matchup.

The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders hosted North Union in a thrilling five-set showdown that came down to the final points. Despite a strong effort, the Raiders were reverse swept, falling in five: 23-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, 15-13).

The JV team won 25-18, 25-22, led by Claire Tidwell (5 kills) and Piper Warnecke (9 digs).

The freshman team also swept Northwestern 25-19, 25-17 behind Taylor Duff’s 9 digs and 2 aces.

Riverside’s varsity squad fell in three sets to Covington, 25-11, 25-8, 25-5.

The JV team picked up a victory in three sets, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, led by Ellie Zwiebel (12 assists, 6 digs, 6 aces, 4 kills) and Addison Shoe (6 kills, 4 digs).

The Calvary Christian Spartans earned a dominant straight-set victory over The Miami Valley School: 25–16, 25–5, 25–16.
